Umeki Tsukasa

For a modern AU -

Hailing from a small island off the northwest shore of Hokkaido, Tsukasa spent much of her early life just as anyone with aspirations of one day being a noted scientist might. She spent much of her youth gathering specimens and then pouring over volumes of botanical data to gain not only a deep understanding of how plants interact with their environment but so too a marked appreciation for time spent outside. Though from her bookish appearance one would assume that she preferred the opposite, spending hour after hour watching the boob tube inside, stuffing herself with salty and sweet snacks. Tsukasa, for all her efforts, has just been that way, chonky no matter how active she is or how much she works out, a thick layer of chub prevails! After graduating high school she would need to say good-bye to her home island if she wished to pursue her sought after career. In truth she had been abroad many a time with her parents, brothers and sisters but only for a week or so long at most during trips to the mainland.

Passing her entrance exams proved a little more difficult than she had thought, having spent the predominance of her attention in the science category and much less on math and literature, still, she did manage to get accepted at a university. Majoring in the budding field of botanical virology or simply botany in more broad terms she spent several long, hard years mostly apart from her family. Later she would go on to graduate with honors in her chosen field, though she was decidedly not the class valedictorian. In the interim years since starting her botanical career an institute specializing in the elimination of viral strains that affect agriculturally significant plants has been built just outside Sapporo...which means more time spent away from her family. Ah well, she still gets time off frequently enough that the smell of the sea and the feeling of soft white sand between her toes both remain fresh in her mind.
