"You know I won't ignore you," is how Leland responds, so quiet. Taking in Eric's words with a breath that doesn't come in quite right, a little shaky from the effort of allowing it to sink into his brain. He takes a drunk man's musings so seriously. He shamefully hangs on every utterance, shifts a little closer where Eric visibly hesitates and chooses otherwise. But Eric forgets, he's a little drunk too.

Leland's not sure if 'easier' is the word he would use. Life would be lovelier, life would feel...whole. Worth the pain after years and years of longing for that sense of closeness. Eric doesn't see it, Leland's already been led on. He's already caught. What Eric wants...he doesn't even seem sure himself what that is, but reiterates the same kind of deflection Leland has only gotten used to.

He doesn't ignore it, it's the only thing he thinks about.

"I know what I want." Leland says after some time, unusually blunt and warm with the water. He's not a kid anymore, as much as he acts it. As much as Eric looks at him and sees his young self, unable to see what he's grown into. Someone who has grown to love him much more than a child with a superficial, innocent crush could.

His shoulder bumps Eric's, fingers brushing his hand as he's watching him with a submissive, honest gaze, only turned partway to look at him and willing to relent if the gesture isn't returned. "I just want to give you...what you want. And if that's..." He hesitates then, pulls away a bit, expecting further rejection. "I dunno... If you don't want me, that's..."

"It'll turn out okay." He whispers, expression marred with sad understanding. "You're not stuck with me unless you want to be."
