In spite of, or perhaps because of, the breadth and depth of the darkness that envelops this world, there are a lot of opportunities for stories that don't exist in other settings. Whether a straightforward exploration of unchecked power, exploring how lower echelons "fit", the start of some sort "disruption" to the regime--even just a romp through the base desires allowed and encouraged to be freed. They aren't something you can get in most settings, so things can be explored that couldn't elsewise.
