This spoken ritual, in tandem with some bloodletting, both binds anyone who joins the Velites under a magically enforced loyalty effect and any Velites who pledge their services to outside territories and rulers under the same effect. This universal ritual allows those who wish to buy their services, or become a Velite in name and rights, to have not only a guarantee to their own safety but the safety of all their contract entails to be kept from harm. Although some may believe to be cunning or wise enough to exploit the ancient magic of the Law of Contract, this binding ritual sees further than mere surface level glamor and peers into the true intent of both participants. If either are false then the offended party may do as they please while the offender is still subject to and restricted by the contract made. If both parties are faulted then the contract will immediately, and violently, reject both.

Some have lost limbs, others were made into mewling cripples but most perished as every drop of their blood is ripped from their bodies in payment for their offense to the old ways and the spiteful magic that still fueled them. This is a sacred oath that is both feared and greatly revered by the Kin of Vel as it completely binds them to one another but also puts them under the control, to some degree, of outsiders whenever they venture out for work. To accept and take the oath is not to be taken lightly for to break your word, truthfully given and veritably earned, then the same results of performing the ritual under false pretenses will occur to the offending party the instant they attempt to go against any point of the contract that was made.
