Maclean. What a tragedy to be associated with that name. Son of a general, his father barely being at home. Something that became a good thing over time. Growing a soft spot for his mother, always being there for her son when his father wasn’t. His mothers son. Not that that satisfied his father, but who was he to tell, when he was never really home? A good boy, always doing his chores, always kissing his mother on the cheek before leaving the house. It was a loving home. It was. 7 years old, his father getting shot. Being in the hospital for 2 months, surviving, but never being able to work again. A new life for the entire family. His father never being caring, never loving. In fact, he had never even told his son that he loved him - or even just being proud of him. Never a hug, it was always a clap on the shoulder. Robot–like discipline. Being punished for everything. Forgetting to turn off the light, 30 pushups. Not going out with trash, 5 rounds around the house. His father still working his job - just through his own son. The once beloved home he grew up in with just him and his mother had completely changed. Wanting to do his father proud, Diego was aware of his high rank and position, if he was able to make him proud, he could do anything. But that was not how it went. 15 years old, growing more into a teenager, getting interested in.. well, teenage stuff. Growing tired of his father; he never would get satisfied. Starting a rebellion in his own home. Behaving badly. Snapping back at his parents, doing things that would piss his father completely off. Drinking alcohol, going to parties, flirting with girls. Doing all the things he knew his father would hate. Getting sent to the army once he reached 18. His fathers decision of course. 9 months away, getting prepared for the worst. Coming back home, spending time with the friends and family he hadn't seen for almost a year. It felt like a completely new life. And then it happened. He was only 20 years old, when he got sent to war. He was still just a boy. Seeing things he had only seen in movies, still hearing the canons at night when there is nothing but silence. Coming home a new person. Mature. Grown. And fatherless. Died of a heartattack only 2 months after he had left. He was the man of the house now. Staying in the military, building his way up through the rank. 27 years old, it’s taken its time. Lieutenant Colonel. Chef at the office. Mostly doing the paperwork, he likes it that way. A rough man to get through. Coming of arrogant, once you meet him, he will be cold. Distant. Not a smile. Breaking his shell is a piece of work. Letting few people in. Being caring underneath the surface. Having a lot of love to give, but he doesn’t, only to his mother. Girlfriends. It’s not in the book for him. Friends and family are enough for him. A respectful man, and despite his arrogant introductions, people seem to find him likable. Maybe it's his title? Maybe it's his father. Maybe it's just because they sense he doesn't mean any harm. He simply doesn't care about the reason. Diego is dutiful and loyal. He will never break a promise, doing everything in his power to make sure it will be kept. Having a direction in life, he knows exactly where he will be in 2 years and in 30 years. |
