Capricorns are philosophical signs and highly intelligent. They apply their knowledge to practical matters and strive to maintain stability and order. They are good organizers, and they achieve their goals by purposeful, systematic means. They are very intuitive, although they don't share this trait with others freely. They do not deal well with opposition or criticism but a healthy Capricorn will often shrug off negative comments towards their character. They are patient and persevering - they know they can accomplish any task as long as they follow their plan step-by-step. Capricorns have broad shoulders, and typically take on other's problems with aplomb. The spider demon is bored with his long life and is looking for something or someone to cause a stir in it. Where Sebastian is often seen enjoying his moments of unleashed cruelty, Claude does not get these moments. He is looking to feel something. He is also not above what would be considered "petty" behaviors if it annoys or angers a person he dislikes. Conversely, if presented with an object or person that genuinely rouses his interest, more emotion will shine through, depending on the levels present. The more he feels, the more erratic he behaves. Expressions of "love" are delivered in a very yandere-like manner.

The demon known as Claude Faustus spent much of his life in the shadow of his father, who was one of the various Spider Lords in the demon underground. He was to be his father's heir, but the lifestyle did not appeal to him. Rather, it lacked the excitement and fire he needed to curb his boredom.

In an effort to find something to cause a stir in his long life, he took on various contracts without bias, only to be disappointed time after time with the mundane souls and their simple requests. They were all tasteless and threatened to deepen the pool of the spider's boredom, enough that he feared he might drown in it.

The contract with Alois Trancy was the first blip of entertainment the spider had received in several centuries. Though he was constantly at odds with Hannah Annafellows and the triplets subjugated under her, Alois favored him above all others, and Claude used this to his advantage to lash back at Sebastian Michaelis (a heavily disliked rival of sorts). His encounter with Ciel Phantomhive was the second blip; a meal seeming so high quality that it was worth dying for.

However, with the duel for Alois and Ciel's souls lost, he was trapped in a death-like coma for an immeasurable amount of time. Laevateinn, the sword that dealt the near-fatal wound, was lost in the whirlpool that swept up his and Hannah's bodies. It likely sits, forgotten, at the bottom of an ocean trench, or has been picked up by another passing demon.

When Claude awakens from his coma, wound fully healed and strength returning, Hannah is nowhere to be found, and he is famished. He lays waste to an entire village to curb his hunger, refusing to return to his father for aid. Claude passes the time searching for entertainment and adequate food, just as he did before his coma. He is not concerned with Hannah's or Sebastian's whereabouts.
