Aida Blue Copeland

Aida Blue Angelina Copeland (born June 30th, 1991) is a Canadian professional wrestler. She is currently signed to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where she performs under the ring name Aida Blue. She currently holds the WWE Women’s World Championship after her reign started on the first night of WrestleMania 40 (April 6th, 2024). She is a former Women’s Royal Rumble winner and holds the record for the longest female time in the match at 1:03:03. Prior to signing with WWE, she wrestled for the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), where she performed under her legal first and last name. She had a short tenure with the promotion before signing a developmental contract with WWE in December of 2018 after performing at that year’s first annual All In pay-per-view, being one of few participants to go on to sign with WWE as opposed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

Aida Blue Copeland was born as Aida Angelina Blue-Ramírez on June 30th, 1991, in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada, to parents Lucía Blue, a teacher, & Joaquín Ramírez, a historian. She grew up predominantly under her mother’s care; however, in the summer of 1994, at the age of 3, she was involved in a hostage situation, in which her father shot her mother dead. She was then transferred to the care of her godfather & her mother’s best friend (Aida’s unofficial uncle), wrestler Adam "Edge" Copeland, and was later officially adopted by him a year later in 1995, where her name was changed to Aida Blue Angelina Copeland.
Copeland began training to become a professional wrestler in 2004 at the age of 13, wishing to follow in her uncle’s footsteps after being around the business so much. It wasn’t until her uncle’s 2011 medical retirement that she began to truly build on her skills at the age of 18. She would compete in backyard wrestling shows from 2013 until 2017, when she signed a short-term contract with NWA and perform under her legal name.
Copeland performed at the 2018 All In pay-per-view after being invited and booked onto the show by her close personal friend and fellow professional wrestler, Cody Rhodes. Shortly after the event, she was offered a developmental contract from the WWE and took it, signing to NXT under a new name, Aida Blue. She competed on NXT from December 2018 until January 2020, when she made her main roster debut as entrant 20 in that year’s Royal Rumble. She was signed to SmackDown from January 2020 until May 2022, when she was drafted to Raw, and has stayed there since.
After the 2023 Royal Rumble, Copeland announced she would be taking leave due to extensive mental and, physical health issues that impacted her ability to perform, and she would be absent until further notice. She made a brief appearance in July 2023, when Edge had his last match with the company, but was absent until her shock return at that year’s Survivor Series, coming to the aid of Rhodes, Rollins, Zayn, Orton, and Uso.
Copeland later revealed in an interview with Chris Van Vliet that she had taken leave due to an eating disorder. She stated that she was in the hospital from February to June of 2023 and considered never wrestling again. However, she managed to return and, as a result, re-ignited her past rivalries with Rhea Ripley. Copeland went on to win the 2024 Women’s Royal Rumble and challenged Ripley for her title. The two were initially set to main event Night 1 WrestleMania 40 but, due to the Cody Rhodes-The Rock situation, that did not end up happening. Instead, they had the second match on the Saturday card as a No Disqualification match. Copeland pinned Ripley in the match to become the new Women’s World Champion.
At a live event a week after WrestleMania, Copeland and Jey Uso revealed that they were in a relationship. In an interview Backlash weekend, Copeland revealed the two had been together since June 2023 and had been keeping their relationship private for personal reasons, mainly revolving around her heath status at the time.
