Giana Bálor

Giana Niamh Devitt (born July 7, 1988) is an Irish professional wrestler and actress. She is currently signed to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where she performs under the name Giana Bálor. She is a former one-time WWE Women’s Champion, with her reign lasting a total of 161 days. She also holds the record for the longest reign as NXT Women’s Champion. Prior to signing with WWE, she wrestled for New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), where she performed under her real name. She is a founding member of the Bullet Club alongside her older brother, current WWE wrestler Finn Bálor. She is best known for her time as a member of The SHIELD from 2012-2014 & 2017-2019.

Giana Bálor was born as Giana Niamh Devitt on July 7th, 1988 to parents Leonie and Fintan Devitt. She has three older siblings and two younger siblings. Bálor was a competitive gymnast from the age of five to eighteen, when she stopped to start training to become a professional wrestler.
Bálor cites her older brother, fellow wrestler Finn, as her biggest trainer and help in her early days of the business. She made her debut in New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2006 under her real name, Giana Devitt. She stayed with the company until 2010 but did not have any major title runs. She, alongside her brother, was a founding member of the Bullet Club. Her contract with the company expired in the beginning of 2011 and she was signed to a contract with FCW, the WWE’s developmental territory at the time. This later became NXT, and at Survivor Series 2012, she debuted as a member of The SHIELD alongside Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns.
When The SHIELD made their move up to the main roster in 2014, the company made the decision to keep Bálor behind in NXT. She took on a predominantly manager role for a few months as her brother made his debut on the black-and-gold brand. In March 2014, she captured the NXT Women’s Championship and held it until January 2016, the longest reign to date of the title.
Bálor was drafted to Raw alongside her brother as the last pick in the first round of the 2016 WWE Draft in July of 2016. In 2017 she was the catalyst for the reunion of The SHIELD, and stuck with the faction until its end in 2019 when Ambrose departed the company. Around 2018, Bálor and Rollins revealed they were in a relationship and the two tied the knot in September of 2021, 10 months after Bálor gave birth to their only daughter.
Bálor returned from maternity leave as the 25th entrant in the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble. Although she did not win the match, she debuted a new personality for herself; more of an eccentric, loud, yet still coordinated version of herself that matched the energy of Rollins’ “Visionary” phase and she earned the nickname “The Mastermind” due to her silent yet coordinated planning masked behind her eccentric personality.
Bálor’s first main roster title run came following a win at Night of Champions 2023, when she defeated Asuka and Bianca Belair in a triple threat to become the Raw Women’s Champion, later becoming the first WWE Women’s Champion. This led to a stint on the SmackDown brand before she lost the title at Crown Jewel due to Iyo Sky’s cash-in. Bálor frequently aligns herself with Rollins and assisted Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 40.
