Alon’s origins are unknown, he typically never speaks about his parents or what he was up to before he became a gem mermaid. The only one who knew a tiny grand of Alon’s past was the youngest out of Alon’s 4 adopted brothers, Como, or Silver Jade. Back when he was the “Swimming Night of the Sea of Dawn”, he was an aggressive and territorial serpent who attacked any ship that disrupted his peace and took the treasures to add color to his otherwise dark cave. His greed had no bounds, his anger also had no beginning to the fuse. He was deeply loyal to the sea though, and never did anything to disrupt it which probably explained why he was so protective and sunk ships that dare pose a threat and disturb peace. His head was never clear though, and he was often clouded with impulsive and violent thoughts that made him act out just to silence them. This was probably due to his overbearing loneliness.

Before Alon ever met Como, he was a lonely sea serpent who liked being alone and fending for himself. Often he would be in his cave watching fish swim by, sometimes coming out to sink whatever ship disturbed his peaceful waters. Soon, the gloomy Sea of Dawn became a ship graveyard, and Alon found himself enjoying his small destructive hobby of seeing how deep the ships would sink. Being a deep sea creature, he rarely ever saw anything colorful, so he often collected shimmering treasures that came from the ships he sunk. He knew any ship near a peculiar coral reef that hosted the legendary gem mermaids meant no good, and wished to protect those who protect the sea he loved so dearly. One day, he noticed something extra shiny in his cave that was… moving. This turned out to be one of the gem mermaids, mermaids gifted with powerful gems by the sea spirit to be protectors of the seas. They’re given special powers by the gem they possess along with a special name that’s more like a middle name than a first name. Alon was curious about how a gem mermaid got so deep into the ocean, and the gem mermaid seemed curious seeing a sea serpent like Alon due to his unique scales and appearance. Alon didn’t really mind Como, after all, things got quite boring down in the deep sea and Como always brought stories of what life was like in his kingdom along with stories of the sea and awaiting the day he would receive his special powers from the sea deity’s special pearl. Alon listened intently, and would often look forward to listening to Como’s tales, not minding the peace being disturbed by the young adventurous mermaid’s voice. Now and then, Como would bring rare gifts for Alon’s many collections of treasures, and Alon’s collection of treasures inspired Como to begin his own. Alon often sent gifts to the other gem mermaids, and started to try and deal with any problem that Como told him that his brothers were struggling with whether it be with disruptive fish or people trying to capture the merfolk… whenever the moon rose, Alton would creep out of the deep sea to be the kingdoms giant protector without Como’s knowledge. Como was admittedly the first friend Alon had in a while, and the first creature Alon ever considered family. Como once told Alon that his brothers were overprotective of him and may keep him from visiting, so Alon gifted him a charm containing a small conch and told him if he ever wished to speak with him, he could talk into the conch and he would be able to hear him. He would’ve been able to respond since the vibration from his voice sent waves that pushed away small treasures but promised he would be listening.


︵‿︵‿୨The Sea Deity’s Gift୧‿︵‿︵


One day, Como stopped visiting Alon. Alon was sad but knew it was inevitable that the little mermaid's siblings would get him to stop coming to the deep sea due to its dangerous creatures and seemingly endless abyss. Occasionally, he heard Como’s voice from the conch, but it was too small for him to hear anything. He never knew how quiet things became without Como’s frantic and excited rants about pirates, his siblings, his powers, and other little things that intrigued the young mermaid… for once, Alon began to yearn for something more, to be able to escape the deep dark sea in a smaller form and also the dark thoughts that cloud his mind. Being big was nice, but being small was more convenient and less.. imposing. He wouldn’t be able to go up past the deep dark of the deep sea, for sea serpents were a bit too big to be in mermaid kingdoms and there would be other complications involving the sun and his scales. One night, during the eclipse, Alon heard a huge commotion coming from up above, no doubt from a huge ship. Alon couldn’t help but feel excited, for the first time in a while, he would be able to have fun sinking a BIG ship, hoping to find something rare to add to his collection. However, he also remembered something else that happened during the eclipse… he would be able to slink out for a little without being harmed by the sun. Alon sunk out a bit closer out of the deep sea to get a better look at the eclipse along with the ship, before noticing how the ship was pulling up things with a huge net. This was normal for ships and Alon had seen it plenty of times… but this time, he noticed the shining glimmers of something else. The unique shine of gem mermaids, and the faint cry of his name, the only things he ever considered family being taken from him. The rest of the night was a blur since Alon remembered being consumed with fury, and the sea serpent got quite the beating from the swarm of ships trying to capture the gem mermaids, but ultimately the serpent was victorious in protecting the sea, but was a critical condition as the eclipse would soon be ending. He remembered seeing Como and his siblings swarming his injured form all teary-eyed, before hearing a faint voice, almost as if the sea itself was speaking to him.

“Your cries of loneliness have not gone unheard, Alon, I bestow a gift upon thee.”

Soon, he felt warmth enveloping him and his body slowly rising and originally thought it was him dying and his spirit leaving… however, when he awoke he found himself surrounded by the mermaids and looked to see he had hands, he realized the sea had blessed him and granted his only wish by gifting him a small form, a small gem floating into his hand, the calcite. Alon’s new mind helped him think things over more clearly and made him more self-aware. He was grateful to be welcomed by his adopted brothers, and they accepted him as the eldest of the gem mermaids. After that, he promised to continue to improve himself to prove to the sea deity that he was making the most of the gift it gave him, yet of course, sometimes he was curious of life outside the ocean much like his younger brother, Como…
