Species

  • The Beginning

    First, the archangels were made. The warriors of Heaven. They were the only angels that were ever able to stand being in the presence of God. The only ones to ever see his true nature.

    Soon after, he made the rest of the angels. Despite being considered “lesser” than their brothers, none of the angels ever questioned God. They trusted him implicitly. For he was righteous. Each had been given a role they were expected to fulfill. It was, according to God, their purpose. The most important thing they could do. And so they did. The role itself seemed irrelevant.

  • The Rebellion

    Lucifer, God’s favorite of all the Angels, was tasked with the protection of the Garden of Eden. The most sacred place in all of Heaven. When God created man, and required the angels to worship him above even God himself, Lucifer grew angry. He didn’t understand why God would ask this of them, when man was nothing in comparison to God. The rest of the angels pretended they didn’t witness Lucifer’s struggle with God.

    One day, within the Garden, Lucifer tempted Eve to eat an apple from the tree of knowledge. In doing so, he betrayed God, causing God to curse his most beautiful creation, condemning humans to a short life, filled with pain.

  • The Great Fall

    God’s wrath was mighty, but he offered Lucifer forgiveness if he was to obey and follow the path God had laid out. Lucifer rejected this forgiveness, and was cast from Heaven and into Hell.

    Those angels who took Lucifer’s side in the rebellion were also cast out. Many died in the Great Fall, but those who survived lost their wings, forced to wander for eternity on the Earth with humans.

  • After

    This story is known even among humans. What isn’t known is afterwards. When God disappeared. Perhaps he left. The Angels didn’t know, but they didn’t dare question if he would return. They didn’t dare doubt from fear of losing their wings in the same manner that locked their brothers and sisters outside the pearly gates.

    They fulfilled their role. Because they were expected to. Because that was their purpose.

  • Powers/Vulnerabilities

    Telepathy/Energy Manipulation
    Angels can not only read humans thoughts, but can also alter them. They can alter any energy, including, but not limited to, gravity, sound, light, and heat. This means they can easily move things and/or set things on fire with their mind, as long as it is within their field of energy. Supernatural creatures cannot be controlled in this way due to their lack of a soul.
    Heavenly Strength
    Angels are one of the most powerful beings in existence, outmatched only by a Warrior of Heaven (Archangel), God himself, or a nephilim.
    Purity
    Innocence is a requirement of Heaven. Sin is natural to humans, but for an Angel to sin marks their wings with black ink like stains. Stains of which, once seen, would cause an Angel to be casted out in much the same way as Lucifer. Angels have the distinct ability to purify humans by touching their soul, but to do so causes tremendous risk of death to the human and is the worst pain a human could live through.
    Emotional Immaturity
    Despite their near indestructible nature, their emotions are less stable. In Heaven, Angels feel little to no emotion. On Earth, the energy of uncontrolled human emotion is so thick and raw that Angels are far more susceptible to them.
    Enhanced Healing
    Angels are resistant to physical injury, unless in a vessel. On the rare instance where they are hurt, they will quickly recover.
    Flight
    Angels who have the favor of Heaven can fly. Fallen angels lose this ability when their wings turn completely black and they are casted out. No angel can fly while possessing a vessel.
    Sleep
    Angels do not require sleep.
    Vessel Possession
    On Earth, only fallen angels are capable of existence without a vessel. In order for an Angel to possess a vessel, the human must acquiesce to the request. A vessel is only as strong as its host, meaning any human who isn’t at peak physical and mental health would not be able to contain an Angel for long. While within their vessel, Angels have the ability to be harmed by anything that may otherwise mortally wound the human.
    Immortality
    The only weapon capable of killing an Angel while being wielded by a lesser creature is a blade that contains the blood of a fallen Angel.
    Magic
    Only ancient, powerful magic can trap an Angel, and only for short periods of time while in their vessel. Prolonged torture would then lead to catastrophic Earthly events, such as all manner of hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. Natural disasters are only the start; eventually, the Angel would become catatonic, which only a return to Heaven would reverse the damage of.
