The trailer park. That damn trailer park. Son of a prostitute and a former gang member. He was doomed at birth. It’s in his blood. Bad parents, but at least they tried, everyone in the neighborhood did. They took care of him, following him in school when his parents weren’t able to. Money was tight. 2 days without food was normal for him. Being all skin and bones. And they all laughed at him, calling him names, making fun of his body figure. 9 years old, his mother was found dead. They called it an unfortunate accident - he knew better. It was the drugs; an overdosis. Coming home with a scratch and ripped clothes. His father knew. Having his own way of supporting his son. Everyday after school, teaching him how to fight back; where to kick, how to break a nose, but most importantly, how to not be the victim. And he got good at it. Going from a joke to someone everybody feared. Beginning to love the feeling; in control. Fighting, the power. Feeling like he could control something for the first time in his life. 15 years old; his father left. No goodbyes, no explanation. Gone. Alone in the trailer. Getting in the system, always scaring the possible adoptive parents away. Until.. A rich couple, already having 2 kids. A big house, a big pool. Having his own bed - and his own bathroom. Having everything he had ever dreamt of. Yet, he hated everything. Hated them, hated losing his control once again. Meaning him well, sending him to good expensive schools - he never fit in. Helping him with homework, asking him how his day went. They wanted to help him. And he never let them in. Anger. Getting in fights at school, a new home didn’t mean new habits. He was his fathers son after all. Ruining everything, behaving badly, picking fights. Stealing their money, disrespecting their furnitures. When he was at his worst, they didn’t leave. Giving them every chance to get him back into the system and get rid of him for good. Being a project for the whole family. Arrested. Always bailing him out. They never gave up on him. Being 20 when moving out, getting an apartment outside the city. Showing up on his birthdays, he shows up when he needs money. Still a part of the family - at least they like to think so. A son. A title he does not deserve. In and out of jail. Stealing, breaking in; they know him. On the first name with the police, spending most of his nights in the cells. A flirter, a true ladies man. Treating them right, he knows what they want. Friend; he’s a real one. Willing to take the blame or fall for the ones he cares about. Never selfish. Doesn’t expect a thing in return. Sassy in his mouth, maybe that's why he always has a scar or 5. Speaks before he thinks; if people can't handle the truth, don't ask him for it. Shameless, he doesn't waste his time having regrets. Living in the moment, having no direction in life. No dreams. |
