Retter

Retter was born into a settlement, and grew up jelping maintain and protect it. However, when he refused to become the sole farmer of the settlement, he left to become a caravan guard. He was hired long-term by a large group of traders, and spent most of his time sparring with the other guards or patrolling.

During one trip, a pack of mongrels ambushed the caravan, aiming to pick off the smallest, weakest member, a kid called August. Retter threw himself at the mutt in an attempt to protect the boy by wrestling the mutt away, but suffered a deep bite to his thigh to show for it. The caravan was forced to slow to a crawl for almost a fortnight while Retter tried to dress the wound and recover. Eventually, they gave up and left the former guard behind when the wound only continued to get worse and he couldn't keep up with the pace.

He was left with hardly enough supplies to survive on. Basically left for dead. He somehow ended back up at his original settlement with some help of a lone wanderer. It was there he decided to chop the limb off after the infection continued to fester. He was practically useless to the settlement after he lost his leg, until someone had the idea to make a new one from destroyed robot parts. With that leg constucted and tested, he was finally able to return to work.. except nobody would hire him, and the settlement expected him to finally settle down and farm for the rest of his life to pay back the resources that were wasted on him while he recovered.

Retter wouldn't have it. He struck off on his own once again, but because he had such difficulty finding a new gig, he didn't complain when a group of raiders picked him up like a stray. He was treated like dogshit for his missing leg, of course, but his skills as a brawler (and some more underhanded tactics) earned him respect and he eventually was seen as an equal among the raiders. They only fostered his worst character traits and fed his self-indulgence, to the point that present-day Retter is a bratty asshole who couldn't imagine for a second working to sustain himself now that he's tasted the easy life of stealing and bullying others for what he wants.
