    Sissy was a bad girl from a bad neighborhood. She ran with her local gang, spent time in juvie, dropped out of school, disappointed her parents, did any drug someone gave her, and turned tricks to make ends meet.

    After fighting off a John who tried to strangle her, she found herself in jail, charged with the attempted murder of the wealthy banker who’d just tried to kill her. After a plea bargain for aggravated felony assault, she was sentenced to four years.

    It’s wrong to say she found God in jail. Rather, she found a priest and through him, the church. The old man was kind to her without even wanting anything in return. He encouraged her to get her GED, and when she was ready for release, got her a cleaning job at a local parish.

    A couple years later and she was taking her vows. She’s still not sure if she believes in God, but the structure of the Church keeps her on the straight and narrow.
