Personality: Rafael is a very sarcastic person who can be loyal and sometimes forgetful at times, he also rambles a lot. He has a reckless tendency of getting into fights which is definitely an issue most times and typically ends either with him ending up with a bloody nose and bruises or bloody, busted knuckles and a sh!t-eating smirk.

Dislikes: His parents, anybody messing with anyone he cares about, people sh!t-talking him or his friends, and anybody who purposely deadnames him.

Rafael was born in Costa Rica. When he was still a little kid, him and his parents had moved to Brooklyn NY. His mother, Marisol, was born and raised in Costa Rica. She met his father, Henry, when they were both 18. Henry and Marisol eloped a couple weeks after dating for a few months. He got her pregnant with Rafael a month after they got married. When Rafael was twelve, him and his parents went to a relative's house for 4th of July. One of his cousins thought it would be fun to set off a firecracker a little too close for comfort. His cousin had managed to get away from it before it went off, but Rafi wasn't so lucky. The firecracker went off with him only a foot away from it and it ended up damaging his left eardrum. His parents had gotten him to the ER and due to his damaged eardrum, it was permanently damaged. He ended up needing a hearing aid that he'll wear for the rest of his life.

When Rafi was around 13 and going through puberty, he realized that he didn't want to grow up to be a woman. He didn't understand it much at first, but the more research he did, it eventually clicked into place. Transgender. It was like a whole new door opening for him, like breathing in fresh air for the first time and he could finally breathe easier. His mother was the first one he told and while she was a little uneasy at first, she still embraced it. Sure, she was a bit confused in the beginning, but she got better with it. She bought him his first binder and cut his hair for him. She loved reminding him just how handsome he was and called him her "hermoso chico".

But, unbeknownst to both Rafael and Henry, she'd dealt with some bad mental health problems when she was younger. She eventually went into therapy when she was a teenager. However, she relapsed and everything went wrong. A month before Rafi's 14th birthday, she ended up taking her own life. Things began going downhill from there. Henry grieved in his own twisted way, turning to staying out late and drinking until he passed out. He'd raise his voice at Rafael and blame everything on him, often raising a hand to him but never actually hitting him and apologize almost immediately afterwards. Whenever Rafael wasn't at school or hiding out in a park with his guitar, he'd shut himself away in his room from the rest of the world. In middle school, people often made fun of him, calling him names and pushing him around. They'd take his hearing aid and threaten to break it. By high school, he started picking fights with people. He preferred the bloody noses and adrenaline to the stinging words and being pushed around.
