Ellison was born in Boston to Henry and Vivian Murray, and was the second daughter of 4 children. Her oldest siblings were Thomas and Katherine, and she has a younger brother named Caleb. She was very close with her brother Thomas, she and her sister Katherine were at odds with one another growing up, but it changed when they got older. Her sister hated her being her little shadow, always doing what she was doing, but Ellison loved following her sister around. To occupy her time, Ellison would read books, and also play outside with her dog Tipper. When she got done reading her books, she would retreat to her father's office and pull out medical books. Henry was a family doctor and ran his own private practice. He supported Ellison's curiosity, she was naturally curious and was a quick study.

When Ellison was in high school, she went on her first mission trip to Africa, and helped in the small free clinic. She was amazed to see people traveling for miles for care, and she asked to do what was ever needed to help. She was wrapping bandages, fitting splints and comforting young women who came for care with their young babies. It was eye opening for Ellison, so she continued to go for three summers until she was doing admission applications to colleges. She had so many choices; would she do Yale? Brown? or Cornell? Ultimately she settled for her parent's Alma Mater: Georgetown.

During her Sophmore year of college, she was out with some of her sorority sisters celebrating passing their finals. They were on their way back from celebrating when they were struck by a drunk driver on the driver's side. When Ellison reopened her eyes, she looked at her friend, Darcy who was next to her, and Ellison kicked in to gear and tried to get her help and to get the bleeding to stop. Her hands trembled as she was talking to Darcy to get her to wake up. The ambulance came and got Darcy away to help revive her. She died on the scene. Since that time, Ellison wanted to go in to emergency medicine.

That night still lived rent free in her mind, and eight years later, Ellison is now in medical school to learn to be a doctor, with a focus to work in emergency medicine, and eventually be a trauma surgeon.
