Shannon Serena Guinness was hatched from a clutch of gargoyle eggs just like any other of her species. She didn't know who her biological parents were and didn't care since the clan was all family either way. She loved her clan dearly and spent the first three years of her life happily with them. But soon everything changed.
She was kidnapped by a group of human pirates in a raid of the island she called home. She would never see her clan again. Luckily for her, the captain of this crew took a liking to the small creature and raised her as his own daughter, naming her and teaching her everything she needed to know to be a proper pirate. She spent thirteen years of high seas adventure with this man and his crew, taking to life on the sea like a fish to water. She was the captain's first mate and made damn sure his crew respected her, even if she was the only female aboard that ship. And they did, she was the best sea wench to ever grace the planks of the Sea Serpent.
She's unfortunately lost her family a second time as her captain and crew were killed when she was just an adolescent. A wild storm hit while they were sailing around the area of the small island off the coast of Portugal where she'd been born, a request to see if any of her clan had survived after she was taken from them. The ship was destroyed and all the crew, save her, were taken down to Davie Jones' locker. She was fortunately a strong swimmer and had a stronger lung capacity than those of the humans she called family. She tried her hardest to save them, but she was lucky to escape with her life. Her crew had been small, a mere 30 men, but she'd never been so devastated in her life as that day. She made it ashore after drifting through sea after the storm passed, only to find out some odd years after she'd been taken from the island, it was raided again and her clan was killed. She was the last of her breed, as far as she knew, and the sole survivor of her beloved Sea Serpent pirate crew. It was the blackest day she'd ever known.
She's since wandered from crew to crew, never really getting close to anyone. She knew better than to try. She'd already been devastated and she refused to put herself through that same kind of pain. She now simply roams the world, stealing treasure where she can and storing it away in her secret stash. She may one day join up with a crew, but for now, she's simply a free spirit in a quickly dying profession.
