> Living in the wilds meant not having to impress anyone, so Riks wore leather trousers and a vest like some turn-of-the-eighteenth century trapper They were simple and practical: two undecorated panels of leather to protect his legs, sewn together by gut of the same animal. When not hunting or working he'd shuck the pants, and on particularly hot days he'd strut about nude. The soles of his feet were rough enough without another rock slicing them open, so his deerskin boots only came off when absolutely necessary. During winter he'd wear a fur poncho which doubled as a bedroll. Sometimes, however, the ranger had to venture into "civilized" places. He got enough looks as it was, so he did his best to seem a bum; they drew less attention than savages. On the occasions he was made to act 'civilized,' he'd don a raggy T and jeans from another life. They were much too small, hugging his bulky form and threatening to tear with each movement. His pants strained against his hips with each step, the ankles coming up to his calves.
Otherwise boyish features were wiped away with scowls, stony silence, and the occasional snarl; bared teeth really brought out the thug in his twice-broken nose. His eyes were bright green and generally set to hating something to death, elsewise hidden behind a mop of matted, greasy hair.
