As inugami, Amaya lives alongside those like her in a spirit-realm. She is capable of travelling to the living world through waypoints (including Tōrō, undamaged wooden bridges, and unlit hanging paper lanterns). Amaya possesses strong shape-shifting abilities, often choosing to spend time in the land of the living without being called upon. She can see other spiritual beings at most times, though Amaya typically only interacts with them where necessary.

Curious of the world of mortals; Amaya often takes on the form of a fox though her coloring is unusual due to her past life being connected to a land across the great eastern ocean. She remembers precious little of her time before, preferring instead to learn what she can of the people and region she is now tied to in the afterlife.

Alternatively, it is not impossible for her to end up in a world quite unlike her own. The degree to which similarities occur may vary, but through some gate or portal gone awry... such things have been known among her clan to occur.

Amaya can be summoned through typical ritual for inugami, or incited to possess someone by way of preparing red bean yōkan, placing it on a flat stone surface outdoors, and lighting a lantern nearby. A piece of yōkan should be eaten by the intended target. Amaya is partial to chestnuts. She can leave the host at anytime, with no ill effects.
