Amaya Kirei

Amaya is a bit unlike most Inugami. Her clan serves many houses, though a few serve none at all. Most come with their own unique traits.

Amaya can travel the mortal realms in the shape of a spirit, or as her fox form freely. Much of her true strength remains locked away until a focus is created (from AD 1600 onwards), a process which is a fiercely guarded secret and not at all well-know. This would enable someone to become her master, though the nature of this contract does come with its own demands on Amaya's behalf.

Upon the formation of such a contract, one would also be able to create a dedicated vessel for Amaya's use. Vessels come in two types: the dedicated ones lasting until middle-age, and capable of using her abilities. Otherwise normal possession can take place without the need for a focus or master, but these don't have access to Amaya's unique powers.

If she has a dedicated vessel and the focus were to be destroyed, this would force Amaya back into her spiritual form and the dedicated vessel would be destroyed in violet flame. This would also break the ties she has to her master. From there, Amaya can still roam the world as before.

While she has a dedicated vessel, Amaya cannot possess any others. It is completely under her control, and these will often have no memory whatsoever of the time lost under such possession. The vessel cannot enter Amaya's clan's spiritual realm, however. Amaya can temporarily separate from a dedicated vessel in spiritual or fox form, but a link of spiritual energy will connect the two. If this is undone, the individual is no longer a dedicated vessel and Amaya will need a new one created for her.

Again, Amaya cannot create a dedicated vessel on her own but requires a master to do this for her.
Without a dedicated vessel, she can only temporarily possess other humans or animals. The only limit to this is the target's willpower.

In contrast, a potential dedicated vessel must be female and under the age of 30 (though ideally 18-25). Once Amaya has taken possession of a dedicated vessel, the hair will change to a lighter shade and begin whitening if it is not already, beginning at 30% white upon possession. Were Amaya to abandon the vessel - by force or her own choice - the individual would awaken 30 minutes to a few hours later with no recollection of the time lost. They may experience some illness of varying degrees, along with body aches and some confusion. Standard possessions do not have any such after-effects.

By the modern age, Amaya has matured greatly and learned to take on a spiritual kitsune form - though this cannot be manifested in the mortal realms. Spiritualists or mages of higher skill levels may be able to sense, or in rare cases even see, the truth of this form. It can be freely used in the spiritual realm, and Amaya can grant visions of it to individual targets if she so chooses to.



Amaya does not know the full details behind how her original master, Shimazu Iehisa, came to locate her during her past life and form the original focus. She knows that Iehisa was her original master, as her memories begin with manifesting as an inugami before him and have no lapses prior to that time. In contrast, she recalls nothing from before but is aware that she must have had a past life due to the nature of the ritual involved in forming the first focus for any inugami. Amaya was passed on to his son, Toyohisa, before the battle of Sekigahara in AD 1600 saw her original focus destroyed, and a newfound freedom granted to the spirit. She has wandered much of Japan and that region of the world since, even flitting into and discovering more of her own clan and some various other spiritual or other-dimensional realms.

By the time of the modern world, Amaya has become quite familiar and accomplished - doing well to protect herself along with the help of her clan, and at times aiding in certain under-the-table conscriptions for specific tasks as desired by certain members within the mortal realm.
