  • Wendigo Psychosis (also spelled many other ways, including "windigo psychosis" and "witiko psychosis") refers to the condition in which sufferers develop an insatiable desire to eat human flesh even when other food sources are readily available. Wendigo Psychosis is often developed as a result of prior famine that resulted in cannibalism.
  • Dissociative fugue (also known as a fugue state or psychogenic fugue) is a rare psychiatric disorder characterized by reversible amnesia for personal identity, including the memories, personality and other identifying characteristics of individuality. The state is usually short-lived (ranging from hours to days), but can last months or longer. After recovery from fugue, previous memories usually return intact, but there is typically amnesia for the fugue episode. Fugues are usually precipitated by a stressful episode, and upon recovery there may be amnesia for the original stressor (dissociative amnesia). Fugue episodes would be times when the Wendigo is in control.
  • Paranoid personality disorder: A mental disorder characterized by paranoia and a pervasive, long-standing suspiciousness and generalized mistrust of others. Individuals with this personality disorder may be hypersensitive, easily feel slighted, and habitually relate to the world by vigilant scanning of the environment for clues or suggestions that may validate their fears or biases. Paranoid individuals are eager observers. They think they are in danger and look for signs and threats of that danger, potentially not appreciating other evidence. En often has feelings that she is being lied to, deceived, or exploited by other people. She also believes that friends, family, and romantic partners are untrustworthy and unfaithful and she'll often look for hidden meanings in gestures and conversations.

  
  

  Important Information

  Wendigo The 'transformation' into the wendigo form usually only happens in times of extreme stress, life or death situations, or the most common cause is if she consumes human/humanoid flesh. In order to return to her human form she must be rendered unconscious, go to sleep, or somehow be placed in a trance to return her to her human body. She is only capable of returning to her body is if she can find it within a dream but also by the same means can she go to sleep human and awaken as the wendigo.

  Human Your character should not be able to identify what she is just by looking at her. It will be apparent that something is very off about her and they may be able to tell that she is no average human, but unless they have some wicked supernatural powers or have seen her 'transform' they should not be able to pick it up right off the bat. (This can be discussed with me however, if you can prove logically how your character would know I will be happy to allow it.) An exception of course would be if the character is of Algonquian decent, such a character would know her for who and what she is.

  Unaware She is for the most part completely unaware of what she truly is. Whenever she becomes the wendigo she completely blacks out and is unaware of anything that occurs while the monster is in control. Once she returns to her human body her memory is blank, only remembering what happened shortly before the transformation occurred. There is no true explanation in her mind for these blackouts and so she believes that an evil spirit is plaguing her which is what she believes causes so much death in her life.

  
  

• The Wendigo

  The wendigo (also known as windigo, weendigo, windago, waindigo, windiga, witiko, wihtikow, and numerous other variants) is a demonic creature appearing in the legends of the Algonquian peoples along the Atlantic Coast of the United States and Canada. In these legends the creature or spirit could either possess humans or it could be a monster that had physically transformed from a person. It is particularly associated with cannibalism. The Algonquian believed those who indulged in eating human flesh were at particular risk.
  
  All cultures in which the wendigo myth appears share the belief that human beings could turn into wendigos if they ever resorted to cannibalism, or, alternatively, become possessed by the demonic spirit of a wendigo, often in a dream. Once transformed, a person would become violent and obsessed with eating human flesh. The most frequent cause of transformation into a wendigo was if a person had resorted to cannibalism, consuming the body of another human in order to keep from starving to death during a time of extreme hardship, for example in hard winters, or famine. Among northern the Algonquian cultures, cannibalism, even to save one's own life, was viewed as a serious taboo. To them the only proper response to famine was suicide or resignation to death. The wendigo myth thus worked as a deterrent and a warning against resorting to cannibalism; those who did would become wendigo monsters themselves.

  The Wendigo is, for the most part, is just a violent killing machine. The creature is incapable of feeling sadness or remorse for its actions and appears to fully enjoy killing and devouring anything that finds itself in its path. It is capable of speech but rarely actually speaks. Despite the fact that it is a massive beast and its looks it is actually fairly intelligent and very capable of thought. More often then not however, it will rely on instinctual, animalistic behaviors.
