• Description

• Biography

  Young, ambitious, and innocent, Aerik was chosen at the age of seven to be a Vigil of the Aether; a honorable position in the monastery's community. Taken from his small village, he was sent to the monastery in the Northern mountains to undergo his training and study in the ways of a Vigil. Lesson after lesson would lead him to the pinnacle of his progress at the age of Eightteen, were he was ready to commence his pilgrimage across the continent, spreading the word of the Aether to all who will listen. Proud of how far he has come, he could not wait to do the work that the universe destined for him. He set out immediately, venturing to city after city, village after village, have people listen to him and, in turn, listening them. In the world, he found all that had been isolated from him in the monastery. In local taverns, people told him tales of great, gentle giants living in the Southern mountains. They told stories of massive oceanic fish creatures far to large too catch with any man-made fishing rod and ancient ruins and were said to hold great treasures and gold. Aerik enjoyed listening about the culture and religions of all the different people and races he met. But, above all the wonders he faced in this new world, he cherished the sweet sound of music the most. The rhythms and beats, the way the lyrics danced about his thoughts; Aerik could never hear enough of this. True, Aerik met many a colorful people along his pilgrimage.
  
  However, not all are as tolerant to preaching. Too innocent for his own good was Aerik and it was this innocence that would be the catalyst for a momentous change in his life.
  
  On a day plagued by deep fog, Aerik walked the main road back up the Northern mountains to finish his pilgrimage after two years. His duty was finally to be complete and he envisioned the monastery's monks and his teachers, waiting for him at the gate, ready to welcome him into their ranks. Such a day, however, would never come. It was as Aerik finished the steep climb to the gate that he saw it; the flames and the death. In front of him laid in ruins that which he had worked so hard to preserve. The monastery's building wore flickering flames all about their architecture. Ash and soot bled from the rooms which held too many memories for Aerik to recall. All about the grounds and gardens laid the mangled and contorted bodies of his teachers and friends. He walked about the burning graveyard that he used to call home, looking, with tears streaming down his face, at the fear and terror preserved in the eyes of those decaying before him. "Why"; the only word Aerik had managed to choke from his throat. Then he felt a pain sharper than any he had felt and all went silent for but a sec. When the vision returned, he was facing the ground. He felt something hot drip down the back of his head as he was lifted up to his knees by a force he could not recognize. In a daze, he saw before him a man; tall, muscular and brandishing a large scar across his cheek.
  
  "Must have missed one, I 'spose", said the man looking up and then back down to Aerik. His breath smelled of warm alcohol and his eyes held wicked intent.
  
  "We've just about rounded up all yer valuables. It's a shame, I know; to see all of yer lads left to such a cruel fate!", he laughed. Aerik, still in a daze, stared blankly at the man. All Aerik could think about was the warmth pouring down to his neck now.
  
  "I'm real sorry 'bout all this, mate. Truly, I am.", he chuckled. "This organized religion stuff is a load anyways. You know that, right?"
  
  Down to his back now. "So warm.", Aerik thought.
  
  "They just speak bullshit about finding salvation and safety through fake gods and prophets and then they expect you to just empty out yer whole fuckin' pocket.", the man continued. He laughed for a second and then stared intently at Aerik. From his pocket, he drew a small, curved blade.
  
  The man knelt down in front of Aerick and spoke, "Welp, that's about enough ramblin' for today."
  
  He put the blade up to Aerik's neck.
  "Do yerself a favor, mate, and ditch the faith next time, eh?"
  
  At the slash of his blade, Aerik felt the warmth all over his being. It was not like the original warmth however; this felt uncomfortable and confusing. His vision faded and the warmth dissipated.
  
  Aerik opened his eyes to bright whiteness, though something in him knew he was not blinding by such brightness. A voice echoed deeply through his ears, though he saw no one around. A man spoke to him a tone that had the same calming affect over Aerik as the sweet music.
  
  "Do not be afraid, young one.", spoke the solemn voice. "You have endured many trials throughout your short life. You embody, through your deeds and innocence, that which is capable of spreading This One's legacy. The one who has slain you speaks the truth. Religion has lost its way into greed and selfishness and no longer truly seeks improvement through spirituality. The same sad truth can be said about your monastery."
  
  Aerik then recalled all the indulgence in his monastery; the beautiful gardens, golden vases and statues, and marble busts. All the while, his teachers would preach the importance of being humble and giving. Aerik never saw the monastery give back to the people it took from.
  
  The voice continued, "This One shall grant you the power to spread word of these crimes and make This One's legacy known. What that legacy shall be is to be decided by you, Aerik, through your actions. But, do not worship This One, human. For, This One is no god."
  
  Aerik began to feel the warmth again. It was, this time, an overwhelming sensation that filled more than just his physical being. Aerik let it consume him and, instantly, the white faded to blackness. But, only for a second did this stay.
  
  A beam of light blue light shot down from the sky, breaking through clouds, onto fog, onto smoke to collide with Aerik's limp form. It created a shock-wave of force powerful enough to knock the bandits off their feet, sending them against the stone wall behind them. When they rose their heads, there they saw Aerik standing strongly before them.
  
  Aerik's body produced a light blue hue that danced about in the air around his figure like the embers of a flame. This radiated even further from his eyes, which glowed a brilliant white. The most shocking of all however, was what the bandits had witnessed next. Something convulsed violently beneath the skin of his wrists. Suddenly, long, sharp, blade-like bones erupted from Aerik's wrists, causing a small mist of blood to spray out from the rupture. Aerik,feeling immense pain, showed no sign of it in his stony gaze.
  
  The bandit leader rose to his feet, clutching his bleeding shoulder after a small rock was lodged in due to the intial force. Anger festered in his face at the sight of Aerik and what he had done to him.
  
  "YOU"!, shouted the man with complete rage. "You shouldn't be standin'. I KILLED YER ASS!". With that, the leader lunged at Aerik, knife in hand, to deal a killing blow to the neck once more. Aerik, with a burst of quick speed, decapitated the charging brute with a single slash of his bone. The man's head rolled on the cobblestone walkway of the monastery as his estranged body slumped to the ground, spurting crimson blood from the wound.
  
  The other bandits could do nothing but gaze in horror as Aerik systematically slew all of them, one by one, cut by cut. When his work was finished, the light blue aura evaporated away and the blades receded back into his wrist. Suddenly, a familiar voice echoed in his ears.
  
  "You have the gift of the Ethereal, young one. Use its power as you wish, so you may successfully write This One's legacy across this world and others."
  
  Aerik stood solemnly about the carnage and flames around him and stared at the destruction he had wrought upon his assailants. Buildings of the monastery crumbled around him, yet he continued to stare, showing no emotion. Eventually, he came to a conclusion; this disgusted him. He did not want this to be the legacy he would write.
  
  It was with this revelation that Aerik took his leave from the crumbling ruins of his childhood, leaving behind all the memories he once held dear for this place, and never returned. He had been betrayed, but now he had a new purpose. Aerik swore on that day that he would use his gifted power to vanquish absolute evil and to protect the innocent from the harm of such darkness.
  
  To this day, Aerik roams across worlds, spreading what he believes to be the truth about religion and cutting down the evils of this universe to protect the innocent at any cost.
