Madelyn is the corporeal vessel for an ancient demon. Namely, a hellhound charged with the the consumption and collection of mortal souls. Targets are typically those with questionable moral compasses, Madelyn has no capacity to select her targets. It is merely a matter of being overtaken by the possessive entity, and finding the nearest meal.
The possession has caused a great deal of emotional turmoil for Madelyn. Upon discovering she eats people, she became morose, angry, and depressed. The woman who had dedicated her life to helping others, to being kind, was targeting those who needed her most. It is especially traumatic for the young woman when her targets are individuals with whom she is friendly and familiar.
In order to sort the ordeal, Madelyn attempted suicide on several occasions only to find it all for naught. She was incapable of destroying her body, and has since resorted to starving the inner beast by combating the need to change. This, however, has her forfeiting any and all self awareness as a hellhound, and her hunts are now more like voracious rampages through the city.
