Penny's History ====---========---==========---========---==========---========---====== To touch on slavery
After making her way to the Tether, Penny accidentally drew attention to herself and her less-than-legal actions. At first, she was still working for her father by using her torturing skills on pre-bound victims shipped to her in crates. As she worked out of her suite, this had become difficult to keep under wraps. A stage of sheets had to be set up for easy cleaning. Bodies had to be wholly dismembered and disposed of in the jungle. It was a lot of work for the skinny little girl. One night, there had been a fantastic outburst involving a golem out by the slave pens. The violence, the blood, and the masterwork creation of the golem had become overwhelming to Penny. Madness was just itching at the back of her mind, lusting to come out and play despite having no current victims to work on. Penny wasn't strong enough to stay in control. Each night, following the golem incident, Madness would take over and abduct house slaves to experiment on. They all died. Save for one. The slave Hunigh had survived. Most likely because Penny had considered her a friend of sorts. Penny woke up the following day to the mutilated slave's body in the bed beside her. Frantic, Penny used her medical skills to patch up the slave as best she could and then left her in one of the public areas to be found by staff. Penny had attempted to lie low, especially after seeing that a bounty had been set with a vague description of her. But Madness did not make it easy for her to stay hidden. She needed victims. This led to her downfall. One fateful night, as Penny had dared to venture out into the atrium, a medical procedure was also taking place in the same room. Curious about the blood for her research, she approached the scene. Unbeknownst to Penny, the scene was a carefully laid trap for whoever had a strong desire for exotic blood and body parts. Penny was confronted and taken into custody. She pled her innocence against the charges of murder and dismemberment. Her very life hung on the line, and the evidence was building against her. The final nail in the coffin came in the form of the arrival of her brother, Eryx, on the island. Eryx intended to ensure that Penny was entirely removed from the family business- even if this meant her life. He testified against her, and she was quickly found guilty. However, instead of death, she was offered another alternative. The arresting officer offered to shoulder her debt and stave off the noose from around her neck. In return, she'd work off her punishment as a slave to the officer. Despite her protests of innocence and struggling against her fate, Penny found a collar around her neck and a new life ahead of herself. To touch on the books
Penny is obsessed with books- so much so it's borderline unhealthy for her mentally. Although she will read any genre, her favorite has always been fantasy. She dreams of meeting bizarre creatures, rare and unique people, even a prince charming or two or three. Her ideas of romance have reached the point that being rescued from terrifying ogres, swept off her feet, and riding off into the sunset on a flying horse has practically become mandatory. On the occasions she HAS run into monsters, creatures of the night, and the rest of the potpourri of strange and bizarre people, the typical reaction for her is to approach them with both a scientific curiosity as well as the overwhelming excitement and desire to be best friends with someone 'from that one book!' - even if they're not really from the story and just happen to look like one. To Touch on the Family
Penny and her siblings were born the bastard children to Molina Hiro, a freed slave who became the adopted sister of Arielle Quinn. Penny's memory is fuzzy about their actual social status on the island, but her romanticized memories have her convinced that she was related to royalty, and therefore, she was royalty herself. Her mother was an engineer by trade and preferred living modestly in town in her cottage, tinkering away on her projects. Money was never short, but Penny always envied the more lavish lifestyle of her cousins and her aunt. Nothing held her back from dressing up, going to fancy dances and balls, running around the castle courtyards, or even passing, out after a hard day of playing, in the most comfortable, fancy beds in existence, but in the end, she would always have to return home to her cottage. Growing up, her siblings did nothing but annoy her. Her brother Eryx (aka Eric) was a tight-cheeked up-keeper of the rules and a tattle-tail from a very early age. Her sister Enyo (Eny) was an incredibly socially awkward, hyper active, and occasionally violent child. While they both eventually calmed down a little bit, as they grew up, the base traits still remained. Eric dreamed of becoming a soldier and Eny was always in trouble with the local law for minor infringements like vandalism, minor theft, sneaking into the tavern, or picking fights. Penny was the good child... sorta. To Touch on the Father
Penny's father was a cruel, abusive man, and Arielle's brother. He had taken advantage of Molina's submissive nature and continued to exploit it. After having been gone for the triplet's early childhood, he had reappeared once they were in their early teens. After the initial reappearance, he would come and go as he pleased, disappearing for weeks at a time, only to return with gifts for his kids and a demand to work off his road weariness on their mother. Molina, never believing she deserved better, would welcome him home with open arms every time. At first, Penny hated her father and resented his reappearances, resisting his gifts, and avoiding him at all costs. She had no idea who her father really was, save for a bully to her mother and the one who donated enough of his own genetic material to bring her and her siblings into the world. However, Cohen Sterling Quinn was making small impacts on his children with every visit, and it wasn't long until those impacts started to surface. Eric's idea of becoming a soldier began to evolve into a goal of being a sell-sword and he started to talk about joining their father one day. Eny stopped getting in trouble with the law, but would disappear for days with no explanation of where she had gone, or why she was constantly covered in bruises. As for Penny, she had already had a secret she knew about, but always kept secret. It wasn't until her father discovered her secret, that things began to change for her. He not only supported her 'hobby' but funded it as well and encouraged her. Suddenly, he wasn't so bad. |
