Mekael is a familiar spirit who was trapped in his physical body by a witch many lifetimes ago. The spell which binds him to the physical plane also makes it so he must always be serving a master(also called a witch or owner), which is why he continues to exist even after the witch died. When his current owner passes away, the spell attaches itself to their house, and he can not leave until another accepts the responsibility of his attachment. Mekael serves his attachment holder in many ways: As a companion, as a funnel through which to increase the amount of energy poured into a spell and therefore increasing the witch's power, and as a guardian and confidant. Though normally taking the image of a black cat, Mekael is also capable of shifting into a human-like form. However, this form is likely only ever seen by his witch or other spirit-plane creatures, especially if any aim to do harm to his witch.
