Anxiety»
Though not diagnosed,it is quite clear to both him and anyone who is familiar with what an anxiety attack looks like that he suffers them regularly, especially in situations involving large crowds, direct confrontation that he did not initiate, and situations that he decides that he can not be in control of. He has also been prone to random, seemingly trigger-less attacks. All of his physical habits (drinking, smoking, nail biting and messing with his hair) are compulsions to try and deal with his anxiety, though he is mostly unaware of the correlation. |
Social Ineptitude»
Naturally ill equipped for social interaction, Dallas tends to drive others away with his standoffish silence, and he's quite alright with it. In most situations, he seeks solitude, either withdrawing physically by staying home when not working, or mentally by shutting out the world around him while he's out at the bar, only paying enough attention to his surroundings to sate his paranoia. |
Paranoia»
Obsessively vigilant, Dallas is regularly looking over his shoulder, as years in the business have worn him down to a blatant, unabashed paranoid person. He always has a gun on him, and is always watching those who cross his path. When he enters a room or a building, he is quick to check his corners and behind doors, as well as taking in the faces of those around him. He is nearly impossible to get close to, as he is in constant fear of those around him being supernaturals. |
Mysophobia & Haphephobia»
Mysophobia, also know colloquially as germophobia, and haphephobia, the fear of touching/being touched, in Dallas' case, go hand in hand. These fears stem from his natural unease with people and socializing, exaggerated by his fear of supernatural creatures and the potential threat of being killed by/becoming one. When touched or touching someone he is unfamiliar with, or even uncomfortable with, his skin quickly takes on a crawling sensation, feeling to him as if millions of tiny bugs are crawling and biting over the point of contact. Dallas usually reacts by, if possible, washing his hands and/or point of contact excessively, and usually experiences a panic attack, especially if it is someone he does not know, or does not trust. He has dealt with this for nearly two decades now, and in that time, has only become comfortable enough with a small handful of people to withstand physical contact with them. |
Smoking» Smokes almost constantly, at the rate of a pack+ a day. He tends to have a pack of Marlboro Reds in his back pocket, and three more in his glove compartment. He is well aware of the adverse effects of smoking, and has decided that he is going to die young, anyway, so he'll just stick to the things. |
Alcoholism» One of his habits that he's actually trying to tone down. More than once he's been a bit too inebriated to get his job done correctly, so he's scaling back on his drinking. However, he has relapsed several times, and can been seen at the Greyhound most nights, at the bar, all alone, and rather silent. |
Nail Biting» More of a private stress relief, nail biting is something that the man only does when he is alone, or when the situation he is in, usually socially, is very, very uncomfortable. More than once has he set his fingers bleeding with over-trimming. His nails are always short/non existent. |
Hair and Hands» This is a more common anxiety-reducing measure that, if he doesn't have a cigarette in his hand, ou can bed he is either wringing them, or running them through his hair. Being in the general population is, on average, very uncomfortable for the man, and he is quick to distract himself with these small stress relief methods. |
Compulsive Cleaning» Once again a more private compulsion. Something that is focused more on his personal life as opposed to it being a reaction to his more public endeavors. His truck, home, hunting supplies, and other belongings are usually meticulously kept, and when messes do happen (usually caused by a cat or someone who shall not be named) the man will usually stop whatever it is he's doing and reorder the area. This part of his life and coping is caused, mostly unbeknownst to him, by the lack of control he feels he has over the world and over his own life. |
