We covet.

It is a fundamental piece of who we are. Of what we are.

It is also the reason for our decline. Over more years than anyone really cares to number, our kind consumed so much silver and tasted so much gold that we all but depleted this world of the peculiar sort of magic that makes us what we are. Oh, the gold and silver remains, and the beings were sometimes still call the lesser races compete with one another for it, but it is now mere mineral. Beautiful and empty of the magic that once hardened our scales, strengthened our wings, and heated our breath.

Can we still be called Dragons if we no longer even look like them?

Do we still call them “lesser races” if, which each passing decade, our forms become more and more similar to theirs?

We covet and so do they. Unlike in times past, it is they that possess the strength and spellcraft to seize the things they covet whereas it is everything we can do to keep a tenuous hold on those things we seized long ago.

How long before our grip loosens entirely?
