• The background

  Emmett grew up with just about anything a child could need, except the love of his parents. From the day he was born he had a nanny paid to raise and groom him to be the perfect Darling child. His father spent all his time away from home running his business and doing just about anything else that would keep him from his unhappy marriage. His Mom, knowing her husband wanted not a thing to do with her, threw herself into a heavy social calendar making no time for the baby left at home. Any nanny Emmett grew close to was fired and sent on her way leaving another tiny hole in the little boys heart.
  
  The moment he was old enough Emmett was shipped off to boarding school and wouldn't return (except for holidays) until his late teens. He'd struck a deal with his father to help in his company when he turned 18 in exchange for being allowed to go to a school closer to home. Unknown to all it was for a girl. The daughter of one of his father's business partners. She was one year older than him and they'd met on one of the rare family get togethers Emmett had been included in. Really he'd been brought home for a month while they chose his next boarding school after he'd set the boys dorm on fire.
  
  Not that it would matter. Their relationship would only last a short period of time while Emmett believed he was in love and Charlotte was simply using him to gain access to better events. After the breakup Emmett closed off what little heart he had left choosing to 'play the field' and enjoy life instead. At 18 he went to work for his father as promised learning all he could about the business world. He refused to be stuck under the miserable man forever. But he knew that the man who'd spent his entire life avoiding Emmett may be a horrible father however he was a ruthless business man.
  
  Emmett's biggest issue, however, is his aversion to responsibilities. He'd rather other's do for him than him actually having to do for himself. So, perhaps, the business world wasn't really his forte.
