AN INFERNAL CONTRACT ► A deal with a devil. One of two copies. PRIVATE LIBRARY ► A collection of texts in various languages and of variable rarity, some requiring translation. POLYGLOT ► English, Latin, Greek, Sinitic; a smattering of Aramaic and Sanskrit. SYBARITE ► You know how it is. Once one has sampled everything, one must sample nothing. (Perhaps, even here, he cannot stand to abandon the facade. Or perhaps he really is that greedy for sensation.) IDLE RICH ► The sole beneficiary of his family's estate. MAGIC-AVERSE ► Unlike many of his peers back home who discovered their arcane abilities early on, Toreth has never demonstrated any magical talent. As such, he's always had a chip on his shoulder regarding the whole sorcery shebang. Furthermore, he seems particularly susceptible to its effects, though it's unclear whether the source of this sensitivity is physiological or psychosomatic. |

FLINTLOCK PISTOL ► Concealed in his dinner jacket. A loud, accurate, slow-firing pistol which operates through some arcane combination of magic and gunpowder. A gift. INCARNADINE OPIUM PIPE ► The bestest friend a boy could have. A long, thin wooden pipe the colour of redwood, perpetually packed with strained opium (see: Chandu). A SLIM, BLACK LEDGER ► Notes, ideas, half-formed thoughts. The first few pages seem to suggest a haphazard attempt at documenting the author's finances and recent investments, but soon deteriorates into drunken ramblings and opioid-induced poetry. |
