History
Sunstreak's arena hood modeled after Huitzilopochtli.
Cassie was born and raised in the city of Tulancingo in Mexico. Her father had begun the Lucha Libre movement during the French Intervention in Mexico (during the 1860s), acrobatic wrestling contests in his bar under the stage name of "El Hijo del Fantasma". Since she could learn to walk, Cassie had helped her father with his wrestling promotion, selling tickets, serving drinks to rowdy patrons and sewing costumes for other wrestlers. Though she was a girl, her father taught her the Lucha Libre style as well as Greco-Roman wrestling and actual warfare tactics passed down from their Aztec ancestors; as he did not have any sons to carry on his legacy. At the age of 16, her father finally allowed her to compete.
Under the stage name of "Racha de Sol" (Sunstreak), Cassie showed herself to be an acrobatic and entertaining fighter, quickly becoming a crowd favorite. For various reasons, such as to hide her true identity, to present herself as a reliable fighter, and other issues with her gender; she made efforts to portray herself as a man to defend herself from the dangers of the often rough clientele that frequented the shows.
As wrestling grew bigger in the city, as did gambling and corruption. Cassie's father was asked to fix some matches in favor of a local politician (known as "La Eme" in the underworld) who was betting a substantial amount of money. Her father was unwilling to compromise the integrity of his creation and thus scheduled his matches in a way that the politician would lose all of his bets.
Retribution quickly followed.
Cassie returned one night from an outing with friends when she found the bar (her home), in flames and her father dying in the street. The men that had done the act were still present and in a rage, Cassie attacked and killed all 5 of them with her bare hands; but fate would once again take a turn for the worst as one of the assailants was the eldest son of the politician. Fearing for her life, her father dead and her home razed; Cassie fled into the Mexican countryside.
A bounty was placed on Cassie's head, and thus she had to resort to stealing to survive as she made her way to the US border to seek safety. It was one fateful night in the brush that Cassie's life would make another drastic change as a meteor fell from the sky and crashed not too far away from where she was camping. Seeking the impact site, Cassie found a crater that held a a glowing sphere that filled her with warmth. Exhausted, and hungry; Cassie bedded down near the crater for the night to absorb its warmth.
OOC Note: This meteor actually came from the planet Juetel; the destroyed home world of Codo and Mireia of the Nebula Posse.
When Cassie awoke, the meteor was gone but she was filled with a renewed strength as the sun rose over the horizon. It was then Cassie learned that she could absorb the sunlight and use it to increase her own strength, the energy of the Sun allowing her to move faster, take more damage and finally; expel excess energy into blasts that would level buildings. This, she rationalized, was a gift from the gods themselves. The being that ancient ancestors called: Huitzilopochtli.
Making her way into the US through Texas, Cassie sold her services as a bodyguard; mostly to immigrants from her home land seeking safe passage. It was during this time that Cassie, now going under the name of Sunstreak; had met the enigmatic creature calling herself Sabetha. The woman seemed out of place in the bar Sunstreak was bar tending in, and when a group of men harassed the lynx; Sunstreak was there to escort the men out...with force. Sabetha had been looking for a group of people who possessed powers like Sunstreak's, and thus Cassie agreed to escort the woman to find them.
Sunstreak and Sabetha shared many adventures together on the road to find the group known as the Heroes by Gaslight, and would be instrumental in defeating the greatest threat the Heroes had faced to date. When all was said and done with, Cassie joined the Heroes as a full-time member, but still occasionally offers her services as a body guard to those that require aid. -
Power & Abilities
A near wardrobe malfunction.
Sunstreak is an accomplished Lucha Libre wrestler, with training in classic Roman-Greco. This is not modern "pro wrestling", but instead rooted in actual combat; as her ancestors were of Aztec origin -- their warfare techniques were handed down to her as well including weapons (primarily the macuahuitl) based forms and knowledge of bone breaking/pressure-points. With her natural agility, Sunstreak moves very quickly and years of training have given her strength and conditioning to last long in a fight.
Her genetic amphibious structure allows her to regrow lost limbs, the length of time to recover is dependent on the severity of the damage. A finger can regrow in a few days, but an entire arm would take weeks.
After her encounter with the meteor, Sunstreak gained the ability to store sunlight like a solar cell. This increases her strength, stamina and agility to super human levels and a form of limited immunity. If fully charged, Sunstreak can withstand blunt attacks, small arms weapons and even concussive force from explosions; this is from what can only be described as a singularity field around her, represented as floating black energy that encompasses her body. Sunstreak can channel this energy into focused blasts through her hands, again depending on how much sunlight Sunstreak has absorbed she can theoretically vaporize a man-sized creature or blow a hole through a building.
Due to her powers requiring sunlight, Sunstreak is more active during the day than at night as her reserves deplete rather quickly if used in excess. -
