Appearance:

Technically Around 40 year-old, Jôme looks a bit more older even if his madness and excesses in religious mortifications have taken their toll on his body.

The first adjective that springs to mind when being introduced to Jôme the Dark is “sharp”. When he is walking toward you to either greet you or spit right in your face one of his long religious diatribes on virtues and sins, you really feel like an axe his being thrown at you.

Unusually tall for a Breton, Jôme is so thin that his chest musculature often reminds people of a wet towel having been thrown on a toast rack. Fortunately, it is very rare to see him walking around in public bare-chested – nudity is a sin before the Nine, or so he says – so such a horrible vision is rarely imposed upon innocent eyes.
But if you really insist, you can eventually catch a glimpse of his physical plastic – or rather, lack of it – during his daily physical mortifications routine, and get nightmares for the rest of your life.

Spending all his time in the administrative aisle of the Palace in the Imperial City (writing pamphlets or working on improving the Imperial Inquisitorial Procedure against Heretics), away from any natural light, has left Jôme’s skin a sickly pale color, and his apparent reluctance to get out in the daylight makes many think that the priest is actually a vampire.
It is obviously not the case, as vampires are EVIL creatures of the night, rejected by the Nine because of their sinful nature, and Jôme, of course, is a GOOD guy, blessed by the Gods for being a virtuous being and all that jazz…
But his gaunt face and his deeply sunken eyes constantly burning with the mad fire of mystical fanaticism, really, really don’t help, and generations of children of Tamriel have been traumatized by their parents who kept repeating them that Jôme the Dark, shrouded in his whirling black cloak, may come and get them if they don’t eat their soup.

Personality :

Jôme is not evil.
No. He is not. Really. He is actually fighting for Good, you know. That is why you should not take personally the fact he wants to burn you alive for being a heretic, a woman, an Elf or all of the above – he is just trying to make the world a better place.

No one is sure exactly why Jôme hates women and Elves with such a passion which confines to hysteria, but what is certain is that Jôme’s hierarchy quickly noticed him for (in no particular order):
a) his zeal in wanting to convert his fellow citizen to a rather rigorous interpretation of Julianos’, God of Logic and Magika, teaching,
b) his equal zeal in burning the aforementioned fellow citizens if they stubbornly refused to comply,
c) his encyclopedic knowledge of religion and of judicial procedures.

Cold, calculating, somewhat sycophantic and entirely devoted to the “Cause of Good” (aka, Julianos’), he has quickly climbed all the grade of the religious hierarchy of the Nine Divines Cult, until joining the most prestigious and feared ranks of Missi Dominici, the Imperial Special Investigators, accountable to the Emperor only.

So, it is as a Missus Dominicus that Jôme developed his true potential. His cunningness, his ability to alternate subtle menaces and promises on his victims and his perfect knowledge of the inquisitorial procedures revealed most efficient to fight and destroy the different heresies which were, in his opinion, plaguing the Empire – the problem being that Jôme tended to label every opinion different from his as heretical…

The reason behind Jôme’s quick downfall remains unclear until nowadays, but whatever happened, it was grave enough for Uriel Septim to personally demand him to be sidelined.
Now put in the background, doing the job of a mere scribe in Imperial Palace, Jôme have not said his last word…

Oh, and you would be kind enough NOT to remind him that Bretons are actually a mix between Humans and Elves, because it makes him slightly cranky and in the mood to set things – and people – on fire.

Miscellaneous:

- Possibly know by reputation for being involved in the “Knight of the Nine” business, for being the best marksman ever in Tamriel(though he would deny it) and for being an excellent BBQ Chef.

  Dear Journal,
  
  Today, I worked on the Handbook of Inquisition and burned three heretics on a big, BIG stake.
  It was a good day.
  
  ...Could have been even better though if I could have added to the stake, along with the three heretics, that repulsing creature called Masolde.
