Life has a funny way of kicking you in the ass when you aren't paying attention. It can also introduce you to a person who lives, breathes, and exists the same way you do. That is pretty much how I met Brian O'Conner. Yeah, we had a bit of a rough beginning. It only took a series of fucked up shit and a race that I may or may not have won for us to realize that we were better as brothers. He's been gone for a long time now. I know deep down he still had that cop heart. He wants to help people. And when he told me he got back into it, and for the first time I saw that spark in him again... Who was I to stop him? So he left, with all that JDM bullshit and took to Basin City.

Life for me was... Steady. Predictable. Something many people would be satisfied with. I could have gone back. I know the San Diego crew were looking to start shit up again. The only thing stopping me was the thought that it could fuck this predictable life of mine. And maybe that isn't a risk I no longer wanted to take.

But like I said. Life is a funny thing. And right when I thought I was comfortable with boredom...

I saw it on the news. The chaos, confusion, pure bullshit. Brian wants to go back, says he doesn't feel right staying in LA. I know it isn't about the ghosts here, which, I guess is a step forward. It's about his other brother. The one I've only met a couple times but can see the connection between them. I'm not going to talk him out of it. O'Conner was always the hero type. Headstrong and stubborn. Instead, I'll return with him. For those few friends I have in that city. And to watch his back while he watches Darko's.

We've been here for a week now. Things so far seem to be going smoothly on my end. Met a few people, made a few contacts. I even have a gig already working the lifts like I used to. But Brian...


I'm worried about him. He smiles and laughs but it's all hollow. I got to talk to him today about it. I told him just give it time, it'll come back. The pain will never leave but it will be dull enough to live with. I really don't think he believes me. I see it in the way he looks at other couples. I see that pain. And hell, I know it too. We came here as broken men, Letty. You and Mia left us in pieces. He doesn't sleep anymore. I'll wake up and he'll be in his room, staring at the ceiling, burying himself in memories. I'm trying. I'm trying to be strong for him.

I know I said I'd ride these streets until the end. But then again I thought you would be beside me. I can't keep thinking you'll show up someday, that the crash never happened or that they missed something when they went searching. I can't keep fooling myself. Brian and I need this, Letty. Tomorrow we leave these streets. The streets that all hold some sort of memory with you in them. Brian's got a contact out, says it'll bring us back to the beginning. I gotta say, I'm actually excited. I don't need to stay here to still feel you Letty, because you will always be with me. I'll make you proud, baby. Give Mia and the kids a kiss for me.
