      "He saw the cat and froze. His tail went straight out, notating his curiosity, as he observed the cat from a bit of a distance. He would sniff the air around the cat and paw at the cat once."

        "Thankfully a distance was maintained between the two. Balthazar never really knew what to expect with dogs as some of them were quite warm and friendly while the rest were all pretty much dumb, lumbering quadrupeds. No, not entirely. There were a few that passed the test, Balthazar supposed, but they were so few and far between.

        He was leery of Thor, ears quirked and twitching slightly as his large organish eyes winked cautiously, never closing both at once for his own safety. When the canine's paw reached out, the cat hesitated, but he gave a genial sniff to gauge his visitor with equal curiosity.

        The feline's body was far from taut, however. He appeared relaxed and slightly guarded, but not a threat to the other in the least. In fact, a large yawn emitted from the small tuxedo cat to signify he was open for further investigation."

          "The Belgian Malinois's tail was wagging curiously as he stepped a bit closer to sniff the cat again. He hasn't seen many cats in his life, but he sure would like to become friends with a few.





          He noticed the cat was relaxed and he tossed his head a bit as he watched the cat. He would then paw the cat lightly a few times and would stay still in order to further watch and investigate the cat."

            "The large dog's advances were met with well-found apprehension. It was already established that the canine was much larger than Balthazar, but he was also insatiably curious. What if he found that he enjoyed the smell of cats so much that it made him hungry? This did not sit well with the dapper little feline, but he wasn't about to tuck his tail and leave either. He was, after all, equally curious...

            The pawing was met with a slight withdrawal and an equal tabbing. He was brave, this Thor. Balthazar reached up rather quickly to place his paw on the dog's nose as if to say 'enough was enough' on the whole pawing thing.

            He briefly wondered if the Malinois was a magical dog, by any chance. Then again, having conversations with other animals was an easy task for the king of felines after all. He locked eyes with the canine once more as if to say, "Hello.""

              "Thor would take the paw on his nose very well. Whatever this creature was, it wasn't mean or a threat to anyone (except objects on tables) so Thor would take a seat in front of Balthazar before tossing his head and vocalizing with a bit of a soft whine/bark noise as if he were saying "Hi" to the cat.

              It seems that these small furry creatures he has met have all been nice and pleasant, especially this one."

                "There was no reason to be unnecessarily cruel to the canine. That was not the feline way despite all the rumors. Balthazar was a cordial feline, a cat with standards and his very own set of rules to abide by upon meeting strangers, in particular of the dog variety.

                The greeting was met with a gentle blink of golden slitted eyes. It was an encouragement for the other to signify their friendship had been officially established once the threat of not being attacked or eaten was at bay.

                Balthazar sat himself comfortably in a perched positioning, tail moving about to curl at his front paws and twitch languidly."

      "Recognizing the gorgeous tuxedo cat she had come across in other instances, the vigilante knelt to be closer to Balthazar's level and gently stroke the smooth fur at the nape of his neck, if he would let her. "Hey fluffy, remember me?" She vaguely recalled reading somewhere that cats memory was even more prodigious than computers. Hopefully her bad luck with technology would not make this cat unfriendly! "Were you jealous because I was petting the kitty as well? It does not mean I'd not cuddle you, you know" While she did not have edible snacks with her (or at least snacks that were safe fir a cat to eat), there was definitely something he'd enjoy! She rummaged in her pockets and finally found what she was looking for - one of the loose strings from Reyn's shoes. Her son literally seeded shoes wherever they went and she was always busy collecting them - when he did not threw them stars knew where - so there was always a spare string or two in her pockets. Eyes smiling behind the mask she let the tip of the string dangle in front of Balthazar's eyes. "Ready? Get it!""

        "Balthazar observed the other with the typical wariness of a nonpareil feline. As she approached, he maintained his guard, making absolutely certain that there weren't any antagonistic miniature stowaways tagging along. However, when Cris reached out to give him his proper due, Balthazar immediately lost his majestic poise in favor of acceptance to the fingers scratching pleasantly through his fluff.

        Of course, the smarmy tuxedo cat recalled Cris, but playing hard-to-get was a common practice for any feline with standards. That being said, once the string came out, all bets were off and all dignity went straight out the window. Front paws came up with claws modestly extended and the cat reared up on his back legs readying himself for his first official swipe. Success! The string had taken 'damage' and the little monstrosity was out for its blood in full force.

        Throwing himself now on his back, Balthazar latched the dangling cord with one of his claws and brought it down toward his chest to give it a good, solid thrashing with his back legs. Then came the teeth, nipping and gnawing with a playful viciousness to show that teasing tassel just who's boss around here."

          "It wouldn't be far fetched to say that the masked vigilante held her breath while waiting for Balthazar to decide if they were still in friendly terms. It was after all a privilege of all felines and especially heartfelt in cats; their strong will was something she had always found endeating... and to some extent very relatable too. Finally, the examination was passed successfully when Balthazar let her stroke his soft black and white fur. Royal clearance had been received! People who disliked felines could never get how rewarding it was when a cat decided you were on their good book...

          "Yay! We're still friends!" Smiling warmly with her eyes she scritched Balthazar's head between his fluffy ears. No way in the great All-That-Is this cat could be a stray, his *spectacular* fur was just too well groomed, soft as a cloud - or as *down feathers*, almost. "You have a name, beyond fluffy?"

          The string proved to be every much the success she had hoped! She couldn't repress a chuckle as Balthazar immediately leaped tothe attack, string dancing in the air now and then, then getting caught between claws and fangs, now and then making an attempt to sneak free only to be caught mid-air and dragged back to the fangs of justice!

          "There we go, show it what happens to strings who mess up with tigers!" she chuckled, letting the string loosely hang between Balthazar's claws for some instants before it again tried to leap upwards."

            "Despite his level of sentience, all things considered, Balthazar had accepted his role as a feline Familiar, and with this chosen station in life came all the feline accouterments. Strings and jingle balls were no exception but had Cris known the reality of it all, there would likely be an entirely different mindset on the matter.

            Reality, however, was for the weak, and right now there was a string attempting to give him the slip. Not on Balthazar's watch, it won't! Lashing out once more after Cris's exclamation and decree of their ongoing solidarity, the dapper little feline tuckered himself out and lay, sprawling comfortably for more scratches. He was, after all, a fearsome tiger, at least according to this lovely lass in a kitsune mask.

            He'd regard her for a moment with large golden orbs wondering if she was of magical descent and whether his suddenly speaking aloud would have any effect on her if she was. He certainly was no stray, but he was also without a witch or warlock to serve at the moment. This little globetrottin' gentleman was in between jobs."
