• Biography

  Born in New York and brought up in Connecticut, Ian was a direct beneficiary of old world money and prestige. As American involvement in the war grew closer and closer, he decided to forego his wealthy privilege for an officer's commission on the mainland and enlisted directly in the United States Army. Curiosity and scholarly ambition were more to blame for his service than any notion of classical warrior's honor or nobility. The fascist German regime repulsed the young Werner and he had every intention of cataloging the Reich's evil firsthand from a foxhole.
  
  Eloise Werner and her Husband Charles welcomed two screaming baby boys into the world just before the first quarter of the 20th century had expired - the second being Ian. His older brother Liam never cared much for school or objective, ethical politics; all foreign powers were a an affront to the American way of life in the eyes of the eldest brother. Their relationship was heated but loving. Liam graduated from the American Naval Academy at Westpoint in 1940.
  
  Despite being feted by girls of various background from a young age, Werner never much fancied steady courtship - though he considered himself a romantic by classical literary standards. The idealistic western concept of love seemed sensible, but for some reason he never gave it much thought; most are quick to label him a prude after witnessing his older brother's lewd promiscuous tendencies.
  
  As his classmates entered their second term in graduate school back in Boston, Ian landed on Utah Beach, Normandy on June 6, 1944 just weeks before his 24th birthday - An M1 in his hand and a Colt at his side - several million German soldiers between him and Hitler's Berlin.
