The Wolf ♦
Height: Approximately 10 feet
Weight: 600-700 LBSFur: Warm shades of brown and cream; moderate thickness of coat, with the most volume around scruff of neck.
Eyes: Piercing gold that holds the faintest glow, noticeable mostly in the dark.
Build: The beast is tall, with a rather thick, stocky build that is barrel chested and narrow waisted. Musculature is defined, though not necessarily chiseled, and is built more for strength than speed.
Personality: As Mataio's shift is brought on by the full moon, the personality of the beast is unpredictable and wild, although that isn't necessarily to say that the werewolf is out strictly to maim, kill, and devour. Instead, the beast is more prone to acting as if a regular wolf would: desiring to roam, hunt game, stake territory, mate, and play. Intelligence is above average and human-like, but most of the higher order of thinking is suppressed by the wolf's strong ties to his instincts, and that includes the more aggressive side. If startled or threatened, the likelihood of an attack from the beast is likely, but if you take caution it's quite possible to deescalate the situation. As the wolf mind is a separate entity from the human, there may be instances he forgets familiar company, and may not recognize friends or acquaintances off the bat; for the wolf, smell is stronger tied to memory than sight. It is theorized that the reason for this werewolf's particularly mellow behavior (in comparison to some of his kin's maliciousness) is due to the human personality having some minor influence over the animal.
Strengths: Accelerated speed and supreme strength are the first to be noticed, as well as heightened senses on almost all grounds, especially his sense of smell. The wolf heals fast: small cuts healed within minutes, larger injuries within hours and devastating injuries within days. Lunar eclipses drive the beast into hysteria, and strengths are said to be increased due to the effects of the eclipse. Weakness: Some common weaknesses that are found in most werewolves, such as silver and wolf's bane, also affect Mataio in a way that an allergy would - it essentially sends the beast into anaphylactic shock, and he will not be able to heal as quickly from a wound caused by a silver blade or bullet, for example. Fire burns do not heal as well as other kinds of wounds.
Quirks: Mataio's dreads stay during the shift, and can be seen hanging from the nape of his neck, including whatever beads the human was wearing before the shift. The wolf is more or less mute in speaking any sort of human tongue, and tends to "speak" in gestures and facial expressions instead; the werewolf's face is said to have more expression than that of a standard wolf.
