• Oliver Isaac Martin Milosevic (June 20, 1978 - September 18, 2005) was an American musician and singer/songwriter from Seattle, Washington. Along with his two siblings he was an heir to the Milosevic & Sons Music Company and a prominent figure in the company. Though trained in classical music, Milosevic experimented extensively with indie rock and various styles of EDM.
  
  Milosevic never signed with a record label and only released one self-published album but had written and performed dozens of songs live that hadn't made it onto the album. After his death Milosevic's family released the studio versions of several of these songs for free download on the internet.
  
  On September 18, 2005 Oliver Milosevic was murdered and his body was discovered in a Fremont construction site the following morning. Despite a widely publicized investigation the killer was never caught.

• Early life

  Oliver Milosevic was born to Darlene Milosevic (née Gallagher), a cellist, and Aleksandar Milosevic, son of Serbian immigrants and CEO of Milosevic & Sons Music Company. The company was started by Oliver's grandfather, Danijel Milosevic and his business partner Anthony D. Wright.
  
  Milosevic was the middle child to two siblings: an older brother and a younger sister. His brother John spent much of his teenage years in and out of juvenile detention and later became interested in the occult. By his mid-20s John became estranged from much of his family, meaning the mantle of responsibility reserved for the eldest son came to rest on Oliver's shoulders. His sister, Sabrina, pursued a career in molecular biology.
  
  Though initially privately schooled, Milosevic was transferred to public school in 5th grade as per his request. He attended Hawthorne Elementary grades 5 through 8 and graduated from Nathan Hale Secondary with honours.

• Education

  Milosevic attended Juilliard beginning in 1998 and received a Bachelor of Music degree in music theory. He also studied music history and performance, achieving Master of Music in the latter.
  
  In 2003 Milosevic left Juilliard to take a position in the family company, Milosevic & Sons. There, he created a program to teach children the basics of music theory and music performance.

• Musical experimentation

  Shortly after leaving Juilliard, Milosevic began to compose his own music and write songs. Despite his classical background he expressed interest in indie rock and EDM. His early works, most unreleased and seldom played in concert, were highly experimental as he combined classical elements and instruments with more modern composition techniques. This interest was not sudden - he had studied music technology and music production using modern technology at Juilliard.
  
  Milosevic sampled classical pieces frequently for use in his compositions, often recording himself performing the pieces to do so. He was also known to improvise his work while playing in various public locations in Seattle as exercise. He often played in local bars and clubs for small audiences where he would sell various mix CDs or the one album he published in his lifetime.
  
  Though he had no formal education or voice training Milosevic provided the vocals for all of his songs, though he did occasionally collaborate with other local artists.

• Personal life

  Despite having a long-term girlfriend from 2002 to mid 2005 Oliver Milosevic had described himself as a "equal opportunity" bisexual, having no preference for one gender over the other. Milosevic has mentioned several flings with male classmates in high school and Juilliard before entering his only long-term relationship with fellow cellist Sarah Langdon.
  
  Milosevic and Langdon were expected to marry in late 2005 but the engagement was broken by Milosevic. "As much as I loved Sarah, I realized we were both at very different places in our lives. ...It was all very amicable, we still talk every day. I feel like our relationship as friends instead of lovers is stronger because of it."

• Death

  On the evening of September 17, 2005 Milosevic performed at Cafe Racer. Attendees at the after party reported that Oliver's older brother, John, arrived unexpected some time into the event. John is said to have collected his heavily inebriated brother, though witnesses close to Oliver have reported that he hadn't drank much at all and assert that John had slipped him drugs. The pair left Cafe Racer at about 12:00 AM with witnesses confirming they departed in John's silver Volvo S40.
  
  In the early hours of September 18 Oliver Milosevic's body was discovered dumped at a construction site in Fremont. Milosevic had been beaten, raped, with his throat slit. His heart was also missing. John Milosevic was the prime suspect in the investigation but John had also disappeared, albeit with no sign of foul play or otherwise.
  
  Despite a highly publicized campaign spanning 2 years Oliver Milosevic's murderer was never identified and John Milosevic's whereabouts were never determined. Oliver's remains were laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery in Seattle.

• Legacy

  After his death, Oliver's family created the Oliver Milosevic Foundation which was dedicated to giving underprivileged children and youth the opportunity to study music. The foundation is described as being a spiritual successor to Oliver's music education program that he had run for two short years before his murder. The foundation provides scholarships and sponsors low-income children to attend music camps and schools. Many alumni of the program donate back to the foundation, creating what has been described as a "pay it forward" chain.
