Juoksáhkká was born to a Norwegian father and a Sámi mother. Her father was a simple fisherman, who had eventually settled down with the nomadic people of the northern parts of Finland. He fell in love with a Sámi woman who was a noaidi, and they ended up having a total of five children together.
Her childhood itself was spend wandering after the tribe’s reindeer herd, as the beasts provided almost everything for them. As a child, Juoksáhkká showed signs of being able to travel into the spirit world like her mother, though the girl at that time had no wish to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Instead, true to her name, she picked up the bow and arrow and learned how to hunt.
Her father had filled the cold and dark evenings with elaborate stories of Norway and the Gods he grew up with, of their misadventures and the worlds he believed it. Juoksáhkká had always loved those stories and one day she decided it was time for her to leave and seek out some of those wonders of the world her father had spoken of.
She traveled down south, going from village to village. At times she’d settle down for a while, simply hunting and doing whatever odd-job was needed for her to earn enough coin to keep herself going to her next destination.
