Ty is your typical all "American guy". He was captain of his high school football team, dated cheerleaders and made his way into college on a sports scholarship. All of his friends would describe him as a caring, straight forward guy who likes to joke around a lot. His lack of seriousness is almost to a fault, which frustrates a lot of people, especially those who have sought longer term relationships with him in the past. In reality, his clownishness is a cover for the turmoil he feels inside, from his own upbringing by an overbearing father and constant conflict he has about his sexuality.
His early childhood would have been considered blessed by most. Ty's father came from 'old blood' and was a well respected leader of the community and his mom was a hard working girl from the wrong side of town, a fairy tale romance to be sure. This all seemed to fall apart when his father noticed Ty's inclination towards non-"manly" toys and activities, coming to a head when he begged to be put into dance class instead of karate. Over and over his father would explode and insist his young son act like a man, saying their family name wouldn't be tarnished by "fags" and "girly boys". Eventually his mom divorced his father because of this abuse and despite repeated efforts to get custody of their son, she failed every time because he could afford better lawyers.
As Ty grew older be began to try really hard to be everything his father wanted him to be. He excelled in sports, dated pretty girls and took things like mechanics in school, all the while putting his own interests aside to please his father. Now that he's in college he is seeing the world in a different light, a world with choices and opportunities but he wonders if these things a worth suffering the wrath of his father.
