• Description

  For the most part, Devon is a friendly person. He’s usually friendly and warm to those who come to him for assistance, and if a lucky person strikes up a friendship with him, his loyalty is undying. However, this is almost always how he appears to be towards new faces that meet him. Devon never reveals his true feelings towards a person unless it is warranted. For instance, if an individual were to wrong Devon, he would continue to act on as if he heard no words of this wrongdoing. That being said, he would most certainly recognize this wrongdoing and keep it to the forefront of his mind until retribution were sought (many of the times involving a hex or curse, depending on the severity of the wrongdoing). Only when he is deeply affectionate or deeply in hate with an individual will he show his true emotions naturally, without keeping the person in the dark.
  
  Devon also likes to test others. He will often say things, provoke, and prod an individual simply to see their reactions, to test their inner nature and determine how he feels towards them. Oftentimes he will do this when an individual approaches him for hire. He will poke and prod said individual in the attempt to reveal the true nature of the work they wish for him to do. It’s all about trying to uncover their intentions.

• Biography

  Devon is the first male of a lineage that comes from a long line of witches dating back to the 13th century, originating in England. His ancestors have often remained quiet, secretly practicing their craft in basements, cellars, hidden rooms, etc. However, not all of his ancestors have been benevolent. Quite a few used their craft for malicious purposes, cursing family lines and making pacts with malevolent spirits and beings. These practices have often lead to the persecution of his family line, bringing about witch hunters and bounty hunters alike to hunt them down. Although many of his ancestors have avoided these individuals altogether, they still pose a threat. After all, ages of wrong deeds bring about ages of attempted retribution, and that is something his family ancestry has most certainly faced. The last couple of generations in his family line have been more benevolent with their practice, yet there is still weight from his ancestors that he bears to this very day. Indeed it is more difficult for the witch hunters to track him with modern technology, population, and the way people are generally more spread out.
  
  Not only are there hunters, but there are also consequences of pacts that Devon’s ancestors have made with spirits and demons that have carried on throughout the generations. One such pact, made by the first ancestor of his family lineage, Bethany Filshire, involved giving the souls of each generation's spouse subsequent to conception. This explains why Devon did not have a father, nor did his mother, grandmother, etc. There are other pacts as well, quite a few made by Bethany even. She was by far the worst witch in the family line, dealing only in the dark arts and making all sorts of pacts, offering up souls and lives that were not hers to offer. All of the pacts, spells, rituals, etc. that have passed down through these generations have accumulated in multiple books and tomes, which is held in the cellar of Devon’s home.
  
  In an attempt to further avoid any hunters, Devon’s grandmother, Corella, came to the United States and settled in a region of forest in the Appalachian Mountains in the region of Tennessee. Corella, along with her husband William, built a roomy little cottage with a bedroom, a kitchen, a spell room, and a washroom. Once the cottage was completed, Corella became conceived with Devon’s mother Gwendolyn, which brought about the death of William as part of the pact made by Bethany. Subsequent to the death of William, Corella placed numerous wards around the area of their home in the attempt to avoid future interactions with humans with ill intent, hunters, and spirits/demons alike.
  
  Later on, Gwendolyn expanded on this cottage, having built a cellar and a nearby shed that houses many of the plants used in the making of potions and rituals. She further altered the wards to detect a person’s inner nature, allowing them to pass through so long as they have no ill intent for the inhabitants of the area. For further protection, she established the practice of clients signing a contract that, upon completion, forces them to forget where the location of the cottage. Devon enhanced this practice as well, forcing individuals to not only forget the location of the cottage, but making it so they will never find it again.
  
  After many years of living in solitude, however, there came the moment for Devon to shed the skin of his old ways and venture out into the now heavily modernized and dangerous world that is today. Into the world he brought with him the most important books, contracts, vials of various potions, anything he could take with him really. The adjustment process was harsh; he no longer could easily procure ingredients for his concoctions and spells (such as Mandrake root or Belladonna Nightshade) and no longer could he roam his garden or homestead in his ritualistic robes, but now had to "fit in" to modern society with modern clothes. He takes work wherever he can find it, and luckily people still manage to find him for their supernatural needs, however his magic is now practiced very privately and quietly.
  
  His personality has changed quite sharply since his transition to the modern world. Although he's a fairly traditional person, he's a bit more shrewd to those he encounters, a bit more careful with who he aids. His eyes have lost the doughy disposition and now have a look of skepticism in them. Although he is still generally a friendly man, he is ever the more careful after realizing the world is more cutthroat than what he has previously remembered it to be. He sometimes yearns to go back to his old home, and when it comes to his magic he still clings to the old ways, but socially he has adapted quite dramatically to the modern surroundings (although he still flatly refuses to drive cars or ride in planes).
  
  As for his old homestead? It still remains where it has always been since it first started being built. The protections still surround the land, but they are weakened fairly as Devon no longer resides there. If one were to stumble across the place they would simply find a rather empty home other than a few miscellaneous objects that Devon decided not to take with him into the world.
