  • Occupation: Many think she is a witch, but this isn't strictly true, though her ability to adapt and overcome can at times be quite miraculous. She is a hunter and scavenger with an affinity to animals and natural healing.
  • Handedness: Ambidexterous
  • Constitution: Healthy and strong but visually impaired. In bright daylight or in the presence of other bright lights, she is functionally blind. It can be hard to tell at times though, she is quite competent in spite of this disability and it's occasional complications.

  • Eyes: A glassy light violet. The Pupils are always quite dialated.
  • Complexion: Snow White- Lacks pigmentation due to Albinism
  • Scent: Honeysuckle, pine sap, the earthy comforting smell of the forest.
  • Discernable Markings: Plenty of scars, but they are incredibly hard to see due to a lack of pigmentation in her skin. Slightly raised, they can really only be felt. Specified if found or seen.
  • Pets: She has made a companion of a large Grey Wolf whom she calls Magni, He is a beast of an animal, and completely feral, but seems to have an inexplicable attachment to Maja, and a respect for what she wants though she cannot actually control him in any real way. She accepts his wild nature, and he seems to accept hers.
  • Family: None alive.
  • Relationships: None so far, the people of her village see her as an off-putting oddity, she she isn't expecting much either.
  • Orientation: Heterosexual leaning, but open minded.
  • Personality: Maja is quiet and reserved by nature, prefering to stick to background of the daily lives of the other occupants of the quiet northern village she was born and raised in. Hard working, adaptable, determined, guarded and untrusting of other people, but loyal and quite sweet when someone gets past her barriers. Brave and surprisingly willful for someone who speaks softly. Above all else, Maja is a survivor, and an unwaivering force against the harshness and adversaries life throws at her.
  • Skills: Moves silently. Her heightened other senses can be almost superhuman especially in familiar settings or with familiar people. She can tell before a storm comes in, or when horses or people are approaching long before they can be seen or heard by normal people. She clicks her tongue when she tries to get around as a rudimentary form of echolocation to make up for her lack of sight. She has excellent night vision so long as she avoids fires or other lights . She is a hunter, trapper & healer.
  • Weaknesses: Impaired eyesight especially in the presence of bright light. Not physically threatening due to her diminutive size. She is quite functional in her local area and forest, but when taken to areas outside her normal bounds, her impairment may cause more problems for her then usual because of a lack of familiarity. She has a hard time trusting the motives of others.
  • Likes: Quiet evenings, the woods ( She knows them better then most), the water, hunting after dark, fishing, good company, the snow, Magni, privacy.
  • Dislikes: Physical Confrontation, having to admit she needs help. Bright Lights, most of the villagers though she depends on them in many ways for the pitance of income she can make from them.

• Bio

  Maja's life was interesting from day one, but it was never what anyone would call easy. After a cruel, hard labour, that took the life of her Mother, Maja was born into the world at the dawning of a cold, winter morning just as the first bright rays of light began to rise over the forested, snow-covered highlands. She was so pale she would have looked dead had it not been for her fussing and squirming, and she screamed and shrieked with terror and pain when the sunlight touched her face.
  
  It was offputting, to say the least, and word quickly spread around the small Scandinavian village of Bildsfell like wildfire. Popular opinion was split amongst the people, The newborn Daughter of Niels and Sigrid Poulsen, was either a changeling or a Witch. Either way, she was to be feared and revered amongst the people. She was doomed to the life of an outcast, that was clear as day to her father Niels, he knew he would have to take that destiny into consideration as he raised her, he needed to make her strong enough to survive it.
  
  Life was not easy for the lone huntsman or his oddity of a daughter, making a go of it all on their own, and Niels would make it doubly hard for his daughter in an effort to instil in her the strength and perseverance he intuitively felt she would need to know. Life would not coddle her or hand her the things she needed to survive, and so, neither would he. Affection, respect, food, knowledge, all had to be earned. The weak were conquered or starved or eaten away at by illness, he would not accept that kind of weakness in his kin, even as it became clear that her poor sight and sensitivity to light would not disappear with age.
  
  As a hunter, Niels knew a thing or two about survival and though his methods were questionable and at times downright neglectful, it had the desired effect. By the time she was old enough to walk she could navigate her home without help or guidance, by the time she could talk she could string her father's bow, and pluck feathers from his kills. As she grew older she would take on household chores, the majority of the cooking and much of the skinning and cleaning for her Father.
  
  When she was ten, Niels was confident enough in her abilities to raise the bar. Given only a waterskin, a knife and the clothes on her back, Niels would take Maja deep into the woods, and then left her there with instructions to make it home all on her own. The first time took two miserable days, when Maja returned home, cut up, freezing and hardly have eaten, she was rewarded with a meal and a bath before being taken right back out into the woods in what would become a years-long pattern. Within a few years, Maja knew that forest better than anyone. No matter where Niels left her she was able to get home with the kind of ease most fully sighted villagers couldn't even boast in the treacherous northern forests and mountains.
  
  It wasn't an easy life Niels inflicted on his young daughter, but in the end, it proved quite beneficial, for when Maja was only 13 summers of age, Niels met his fate in the woods on a hunt, and never returned. Maja was left all on her own, and much as he'd envisioned, she would find no help from the people around her. They were too wary of her to take her in, resources were too tight anyway for most to consider unrewarded charity.
  
  Maja was fortunate in that she had a roof over her head, but in order to survive, Maja could only take up her Father's mantle as the town's hunter and scavenger, to bring home the skins, meats and healing herbs that the villagers needed in exchange for coin and other resources she needed. It was the start of her precarious but workable arrangement with the village. She was respected and relied on for what she could do for them, while still remaining very much on the outside of their community. It's a lonely life, but Maja makes it work.
