Truth be told Varro wasn't born entirely into high society his mother was a Norse woman, in Rouen where his Father was meant to be doing business. Heir to a long lineage of assassins, bounded by blood to uphold the safety of a wealthy family. His newfound profession came with wealth and prestige, but most importantly a secret to hide.
Master Luis & his Father both were werewolves, and belonged to a secret society that operated undercover. They'd both be killed otherwise. This posed a problem when Luis open homosexuality began attract attention of the inquisition who served to give god's judgement.
Nor did he want a gay to inherit the family fortune, not at all, it would be quite terrible in fact outrageous. It was the holy city of Rome after all and such crude hedonistic desires were beyond such a prestigious family. Upon further inspection, he begins to hear tales of absolute butt-sex going on and it was the last nail in the coffin. Thankfully this man also had a bastard who he sired, with a baroness out in a quite a wild night and was caught for it. Naturally his wife was rather upset about this development but this bastard would do. With the help of a couple jugs of wine, it wouldn’t take him much longer to make a decision. He would officially legitimize the bastard to be part of his own dynasty; gasps and shock all around one would imagine, but it was a boy so it would work. The next would be trickier, he disallowed the rumors of his son's homosexuality spread and he'd device a plot.
A plot very few would want and one that would lead into him becoming a kin slayer an absolutely terrible title to carry upon one's name but no matter. The little shit would ruin the family reputation as a pious and prestigious family. So, Macon Sr. gathered people and came up with the idea to arrange a band of highwaymen to cut the son's throat out. This would mean that it was simply done by bandits rather than actual soldiers, bandits after all have no ties to him by any stretch of the imagination. He’d send his son and damned gay lover out; it'd be a practice with the local military forces settled outside of Rome. Away from her streets and out in the forest.
The caravan is ambushed, the crew attacked, wagon driver manages to escape (intentional to let him go, the son was the target) the fight would be valiant but there'd be crossbowmen and archers hiding in the bushes while rest of the highwaymen attack with intention to raid, loot and pillage the wagon for precious resources, Varro tries to defend his master, gets hit from bolt, is distracted and gets stabbed. Luis had been heavily wounded surged forward tucking Varro against him biting his collar thus forever changing his life, unfortunately Luis was then stabbed from behind leaving Van to wither. He later awoke to the body of Luis strung up upon a tree and vowed revenge.
