History

• Biography

  Cionaodh, Is óige mac Oberon, flatha Tuatha Dé Danann, known as “the Fire Prince” or the “Fireborn” by his people, is the youngest son of the High King of Tír na nÓg, which is known to most as the simply the Otherworld. Born clutching a silver spoon, the prince wanted for nothing except perhaps a purpose. He was greatly celebrated at his birth, as his gift of fire was an uncommon element for the Tuatha and even more rare for someone of the royal family. Even so, as the youngest Cion was overshadowed by the crown prince, Padraic’s charisma and skill in the courts, and as hard as he tried he was no match for his other brother Dubhlainn in warfare and martial arts.
  
  His eldest brother tried to encourage him to engage in quests and heroics to represent the house honorably, but all that resulted in was Cion discovering the best spoils were the affections of gracious maidens. His heart was too wild and filled with fire, so he’d often shirk his duties and spend his time roaming towns looking for the nearest tavern or ball to attend. Later in his life, he was often dodging his princely lessons to flirt with scullery maids or sneak into other kingdoms and steal the hearts of their noble daughters. This got him into no end of trouble, sometimes causing disputes between fiefdoms when a maid refused to marry because her heart “belonged to someone else”.
  
  After a recent scandal involving a young betrothed lady, Cion’s father temporarily sent him on a “quest” to explore one of the portals that had reopened to the human world. The king wanted to know more about the humans since their people's absence and know if they were friend or foe. The human world held no end of wonders for the young prince, and the ability to goof off all he wanted without the disapproving gaze of his parents and oldest brother. Masquerading as a foreigner, Cion used his skill at illusions to make himself appear as a somewhat normal man blending in so he could delight in earth's wonders.

• Tuatha Dé Danann

  The Tuatha are a race that lived back when the gods and magic were still present on earth. They were driven into the Otherworld when their Gods were destroyed by the Milesians until the portals reopened several years ago. There are two distinct factions of the fairies, the Seelie and the Unseelie, the former wanting to live in harmony with humans and the later wanting to cause harm to them by destruction or subjugation. They speak an older form of Gaelic and celebrate most Irish holidays including Samhain (~1 November), Imbolc (~1 February), Beltane (~1 May) and Lughnasadh (~1 August). Tuatha are weak to cold iron, it can cause their illusions to melt and burn them on contact. They also put a lot of emphasis on the ‘true’ names of things, it’s mostly superstitious but it is considered a great honor to know anothers full name.
