    Birth Name
    The Ta'agra name M'Vabazeri can be divided into two distinct components. First, the prefix M', which has been translated to mean "child," "apprentice" or "virgin," in the common tongue. The second half – Vabazeri – can be taken to mean "one thing changing to another," or "becoming".

    Thus, the name M'Vabazeri might loosely be translated as "changing child" or "growing apprentice". In the strictest sense, it refers to an inexperienced person on the cusp of becoming something more.

    Chosen Name
    As noted, no known translation has been given for the phrase Khalal'brihn Salaniai. Though the Magister insists that it is taken from an undocumented dialect of the Sload language (perhaps in honour of the famed Sload necromancer N'Gasta), no significant data have been found to corroborate this claim.

    It is worth mentioning that the Magister is (rather snippily) adamant that this name not be shortened. To do so, according to him, would be to disrespect the eldritch power and significance of the phrase. In the case of Tel Khalal, he claims, things are different. Why, he will not say.

    Other
    Though it irks him, the Magister's undead retainer S'Rabi often refers to him as Jo'Dirun Atha'a, meaning "Blue-Eyed Wizard". When taking a more formal tone, this will change to Ra'Dirun Atha'a, or "Blue-Eyed Master".

    The Khajiit are a cat-like people hailing from the desert province of Elseweyr. In Ta'agra (the native tongue of the Khajiit), the name of their people can be said to mean "one who walks the desert" or, in loose short-hand, "desert-walker".

    Khajiit are often canny and agile, and widely regarded as proficient thieves and acrobats. They come in many breeds, from the Bosmer-like, bipedal Ohmes to the massive, quadrupedal Senche-raht, though the Suthay-raht seem to be the most common breed found outside of Elseweyr. A Khajiit's breed is determined by the phases of the moons at the time of their birth.

    The Khajiit, along with the reptilian Argonians of Black Marsh, are one of the races most commonly enslaved by the Dunmer; in particular, the Dunmer of House Telvanni.

    MW-banner-House_Telvanni.pngThe isolationist and eccentric Telvanni comprise one of the five Great Houses of Morrowind, ancestral home to the Dunmer.

    Theirs is a house of ruthlessly ambitious wizards who have no qualms with the notion of murdering their peers in order to advance their own positions. They affect a bizarre and magically-fueled form of 'architecture' which is more organic than synthetic in nature. Telvanni towers are often described as resembling gargantuan mushrooms seated among coiling vegetal stalks and roots, and oftentimes cannot be navigated without some magical ability; in particular, access to a levitation spell.

    The Telvanni are among the staunchest supporters of the traditional Dunmeri practice of slavery, and thus tend toward mild to extreme racism. However, the commonly-enslaved Khajiit, along with Argonians, may join and advance within the faction, given the proper drive and talents are present.

    Members of House Telvanni have been known to harbour a mistrust towards the Empire in general, and the Imperial Guild of Mages, in particular.

    Of all Dunmeri Great Houses, the Telvanni are the least averse to necromancy and the undead.

    Hireling
    The lowest ranking members of House Telvanni. Hirelings perform menial tasks and chores for those higher in rank.

    Retainer
    The second lowest rank within House Telvanni.

    Oathman
    The Oathmen of House Telvanni gain access to the network of teleportation stones within each of the Telvanni Masters' towers.

    Lawman
    A middling rank within House Telvanni.

    Mouth
    The Mouths of House Telvanni each serve under a particular Master, acting as that Master's 'voice' within the Council Hall at Sadrith Mora, the Telvanni seat.
    Spellwright
    A respectable rank within House Telvanni.

    Wizard
    A venerable rank within House Telvanni.

    Master
    Members of House Telvanni who warrant a voice in the Council Hall. All Masters may claim the title of Magister, but few choose to do so.

    Magister*
    Masters who claim the title of Magister are, in doing so, issuing a formal challenge to the current Archmagister. Taking this title indicates one intends to usurp the current Archmagister's position.

    Archmagister
    The highest achievable rank within House Telvanni. There is only one Archmagister at any given time. The Archmagister is succeeded by the Magister who manages to kill them.

    *Khalal'brihn Salaniai had just declared himself a Magister and set off to challenge the current Archmagister, when he disappeared from the island of Vvardenfell. It has been assumed by other members of his House that he was killed by agents of the Archmagister along the way.

  • Slavery

    "We are disappointed that the Imperial Cult does not speak out against the inhumane practices of slavery in Morrowind. But perhaps you are right. It is by demonstrating our superior commitment to civilization and humanity that we best disprove the Dunmer's barbaric insistence that we are no more than animals."

    Slavery is a slowly dying practice among the Dunmer of Morrowind during the 3rd Era. However, its roots run deep within the culture, especially among the mage-lords of House Telvanni and the plantation-barons of House Hlaalu. Though members of any race can be enslaved, the most commonly subjugated are the Betmer (beast people); namely, the Argonians and Khajiit, as noted above.

    Though the Magister has suffered the prejudice levied against the Khajiit during his time in the province of Morrowind, he seems to feel little sympathy for his enslaved brethren. Indeed, he made his first fortune claiming the slaves kept by various bands of smugglers along the Bitter Coast and placing them back on the market. Further, he is known to have kept a number of slaves himself in his time as a Telvanni Magister; Khajiiti and otherwise.

    It has been said that some of the Magister's slaves mysteriously go missing; in particular, during certain lunar phases.
