• An Apex Predator

  The planet Verrak is a desolate world, two-thirds covered in harsh desert and rocky terrain riddled with deep ravines and vertical cliffs. The black sea and rivers are contaminated with a mineral found all over the planet, which is what makes the waters so dark in color, the only drinkable source for creatures on land is rain water, the rains come infrequently but when they do it is a deluge. The skies are heavily shrouded in deep orange tinted clouds reflecting off the rust colored sands of the planet, this makes the two suns unable to effectively penetrate through to the surface, conditions are always overcast, especially during the consistently re-occurring sandstorms.
  
  Given the severe landscape and weather, the creatures on Verrak have evolved to stand up to all conditions, making them sturdy and able to withstand living in situations that would otherwise cripple and lead off-worlders to their deaths. Of the meager number of species able to survive and live on the planet (around two-thousand) the Rehagharian remain the Apex predator and only sentient race despite their failing numbers. These 'feline-like' creatures stand between seven and eight feet tall and are bipedal. Their limbs are lengthy and muscular with hands and feet equipped with thick sharp black claws used for climbing steep rock faces, defense, and combat. The fur of a rehagharian is truly unique, coming in a combination of golds, browns, reds, beige and white accents (very similiar to the Lions of Earth), it can become nearly impenetrable. The thick fibers are able to harden at will to create a full body armor that protects against extreme sandstorms and attacks, this takes a little under a minute for all the fibers and follicles to make this transition, and after takes on a near-metallic appearance.
  
  Other than claws and hardening fur, the Rehagharians also have tusk-like bottom teeth that, in males, will protrude from the bottom lip, and can measure up to five inches. Their long ears are highly sensitive and can pick up on the slightest irregular scuttling or movement even during a storm, and their tails help with balance when navigating cliffs. Like other creatures on the planet, their eyes are a milky white, a form of callous that protects the membrane of the eye from being buffeted by sand. When first encountered, it was believed that the race was blind, but it was soon apparent that the layer over the eye worked much like a two-way mirror, or a tinted visor. They see in a way most similar to ultraviolet, except there is no need for UV rays to do so, this makes their vision during the day and night rather effective, but don't bother asking what color something is because it is all a varying shade of one color for them, and with no real concept of color they exactly cant tell you. Other than that it is easy enough to say they are very strong, durable, and fascinatingly evolved creatures (that can't swim).
  
  Not much is know about Rehagharian lifestyle other than they were a clan based and nomadic race. This is stated in past tense as it is assumed that the race has been wiped clean from the planet Verrak due to slave trading. They became widely sought for by slave traders for illegal fighting and arena battles, only the best slave master would have one, and it would be their champion. They were easy to target and hunt down given their simple weapons and way of living, which are no match for airships, advanced weaponry, and toxic gases. Despite easy capture, no Rehagharian was/is easy to tame, and slavers highly underestimated their intelligence and understanding. Masters were quick to learn that each one needed isolation, and drastic discipline to control and avoid any unwanted situations.
  
  Before they were discovered, the numbers of Rehagharians was at an estimated 15,000 ( a large number given the severeness of their home planet), now there is an estimated number less than 300 spread around the galaxy. Many of those remaining are still slaves, but others that got a lucky chance at liberation are now some of the best mercenaries and assassins one can hire, if you get the rare chance encounter, that is.

• Roleplay ideas

  Slave market
  
  1: Your character is a slave (recently captured or not) and has arrived at old Slave Market on the outskirts of the galaxy. Here the slavers and masters are exceptionally cruel, and their favorite form of entertainment and pastime is picking the best slave to enter into the arena, similar to an old human tradition in which the slaves were called 'Gladiators'. The rule: Kill or be Killed. However not all slaves are destined for the arena, some are servants, some are used for more sexual exploits, and others are used as bodyguards, cooks, pilots, etc. Your character has been assigned their place, whatever you choose that to be, and your Master is working alongside another that happens to have a rare Rehagharian slave. Your character's master starts spending a lot of time with this other slave master, interested in the fact that the Rehagharian will be entered in the Arena, and has an undefeated title. Due to this, your character is subjected to spend a lot more time around this other slave, which is very intimidating given that Rehagharian have been deemed as savage beasts that must constantly be under lock and key or they will kill and destroy everything in their path. Is this monster truly what it is said to be? Or is there more to the race than just blood and massacre?
  
  2: A slave trader just landed at the Market and is unloading, exclaiming that everyone will be interested in what has been brought. At first the cargo is nothing special and everyone starts getting angry that he lied, but then A Rehagharian is brought out and the crowd gets quiet until they are assured the beast is contained and safe to approach. Many high class masters become interested in adding the creature to their lot, due to its rumored abilities and beautiful fur/feline appearance, Quickly an auction is established. Your character is one of the interested Masters, convinced that the Rehagharian will increase your already substantial winnings. Willing to fork out some good money, you win the auction. How hard can a dumb animal be to train? Perhaps you bit off more than you can chew? Or maybe this slave brings a new light to how you feel about owning slaves? Is a different sort of bond established?
  
  Hired Gun
  
  1: This takes place after Akir's liberation where he is now a mercenary working on board ship. Your character can be another Mercenary new to the ship, or perhaps some kind of scientist. At first you are not at all comfortable working on a ship with a Rehagharian given the rumors and not knowing a lot about them, even with the crew trying to assure that he's really a great being. Over a course of time, battles, etc, you realize the walking exotic carpet isn't so bad, and is a loyal companion.
  
  Outlaw/Runaway/ Miscreant
  
  1: Your character is in a spot of trouble and trying to seek some refuge. Hey, that big hulking cat thing looks like it can do a hell of a lot of damage if anyone tries to rough you up. You try to get it on your side, whether its some talking to convince it, or you just happen to be so pathetic and defenseless that it helps you out of empathy, it does drive your pursuers away. Do you try to stick around with it? Kill it? Hire it? Fall in love with it????
