• At a Glance

  When unguarded and at ease, her natural features are notably soft; eyes radiate a deep sapphire behind the thin glare of her spectacles while the tousled, flyaway hair boasts all the richness of a wheat field at it's ripest season. Sweet, cloying, thick and delectable; her scent is a thing quite hard to pin down even for the keenest of noses, but it leans quite piquantly when and while she's assumes different guises, shapes, and shades. Delicate fingers hold a sternness quite apt in penmanship and scribing, but could easily be turned to weaving or threading, even healing. Her hands claim more of a resemblance to the tips of a spinner's wheel than fingers; dextrous and pointed, primed for the tedious task of flipping pages and untying knots. All these skills make her the priceless addition to Rhydin's Public Library that she is.
  
  Slipping skins, jotting down notes, speed reading, and marking the history she witnesses along the way. Elle is a writer, a poet, a lister, and an unintentional charmer. She is also a kindly, clumsy person who tends to stutter when too intensely questioned or finds herself backed into a invasive conversational corner. Although for the most part, when immersed in sociable atmospheres, the slight woman's first and foremost notable impressions are much more endearingly... abstruse.
  
  Despite her occasional awkwardness amongst folk, Elle has a matron's touch to her, and babes fresh from the womb have found neat fits in the tender cradle of her palms, safe and sound.
  
  The one skill folks won't hear most about, however, is her shapeshifting. Elle keeps that a fairly tightly kept secret along with the many others.. Those adept in reading magic and seeing through illusions won't be able to see through the bodies and shapes she assumes, simply because it isn't magic; it's biology. Her ability to do so comes from the viscosity and sheer flexibility of her cellular structure.
  
  The DNA itself is of a malleable design, so it's not only capable of decoding newly found DNA of other creatures to assume their make, but also recall already encountered codes for a quicker, more fluid transformation. This radical shift in bodies and genetics is not without it's limits however, for if Elle taxes and tires her body beyond a point she knows she can handle, or does not concentrate, her cells will automatically restructure themselves to their state of rest, which is of course her birth-body. Everything from scent, to heart rate, to brainwave alike, whatever she shifts into, she IS.
  
  The shifting abilities are limited as they are, simply because of the great physical strain it puts on the librarian's body. All the motion from those hundreds of millions upon millions of cells drastically spikes her temperature, and in the process of these shifts, especially when pushed beyond her limit, Elle can and will develop a debilitating fever; it is one of the reasons her eyesight is poor, due to fevers she's suffered in for too long.
  
  Yet another reason for Elle to keep her hands to herself can also be attributed to the incredibly sensitive cellular structure she's made up of. It is nothing so drastic as telepathy, but skin is something she'd rather not come into contact to without due warning. The years, while not the kindest, did provide her with enough a discipline to help curb the influx of emotion from a wayward brush, but prolonged exposure to naked skin is enough to send her reeling.

• History

  One wouldn't think any of this about Elle, though, if they saw her several years before. Her history was one kept as quiet as the nature she most often assumes, but to know it is something to boast about, because the mousy scholar didn't(and still doesn't), often share facts other than the ones she found in text. Now she speaks, she smiles, and articulates near as well as any other person, save perhaps for a shade of natural quietness that still envelopes her sage persona. She also loves to eat. A lot. Pastries mostly, but never let it be said that the librarian doesn't have an appetite to rival even that of the biggest-bellied inhabitants of Rhydin.
  
  She has come a long way from the broken orphan child she grew as...
  
  Yes. Orphaned and alone, yet lost on a planet full of people. That had been Estelle Gianna's existance for some time. Abuse, deceit, illness, and mistrust were all a big part of the shifter's childhood bread and butter. She learned from birth just how cruel the world could be when her parents left her on the steps of some great house of god, alone, hungry, and squalling in the rain. Many thought her dead when they doors of the chapel finally opened, or at the very least likely to die, and why would they not? She was paler than pale, yet seemed to morph and shift with the sickliest hue. Even the priests, the nuns, and as she grew, the matrons and house holders of the various orphanages; they were always on the watch for their pretty little golden-haired child to drop at any moment. She was so thin, and thinner still when the sickness came back to ravaged her with tremors and fevers.
  
  They knew no better, and how could they? With no money to be had, and no soul with a care to take a closer look beneath the surface of another misbegotten orphan child enslaved to the system, little Elle continued to suffer until she was of age enough to be considered an adult and leave of her own accord. Until that day came, however, she lost herself in solitude and whatever literature she could keep in her hands. Tales of all kinds from all manner of places, medical texts, crafters books, atlases and historical tomes; all fell victim to her ever-ravenous mind. They were her sword and shield as much as her escape, those books.
  
  Ensconced in her books, she became a queen like no other; sharp, bright, and quick tongued. Though she often found them with battered spines and torn covers, she loved them all the same, for appearances of those around her had taught her much.
