Welcome to Alana's profile. Sci-fi is not the most popular genre of RP on the site but it's one I love very much. From Alien, to Star Trek, Halo, Star Wars, the Expanse, and beyond it's a setting I hold near and dear. I love having the ability to explore the future of humanity and what changes, as well as what stays the same. Sci-fi is ultimately telling human stories through a lens not our own or even to discuss social issues of today through a work of fiction set in tomorrow. Alana is here to serve those writing purposes for those who wish to go on a journey with her.

Some of my favorite settings are listed but they're not exclusive. I'll happily consider any sci-fi setting from an established universe to a homebrew one (though I will expect consistency in homebrew, such as establishing major technologies, alien races, etc. ahead of time). Please don't be shy if any of the settings, the character, story ideas, or anything catches your attention.

I am only interested in sci-fi with this character. I have other characters to accommodate fantasy, modern, and other such RP. This character is for the perhaps not-so-distant future and exploring that brave, new world. Strap in, fire up your warp drive, and let's see what's out there!

I'm perfectly comfortable with Alana being hurt, experiencing intimacy, or even being killed in the course of an RP. I can do long or short term; she works for one-off meetings or flings equally as well as long term romances or adventures. I'll strive to write realistically with her as she's mortal. She experiences normal emotions and reactions to stress. I say again... I will let this character die if it makes for a good story. I'll let her be eaten by a space worm, have a xenomorph pop out of her chest, or go down with the ship. I care about good story.

I'll RP sexual content in full detail with 18+ writers. I'll happily fade to black otherwise. If you trick me on this, you'll be reported and blocked. I'm kink-friendly (no bathroom stuff) with a strong preference for human x alien pairings; feel free to ask me about what you're interested in. I may say 'no' but I'll likely say 'yes'. Especially where aliens are concerned, the stranger the better. As Sci-Fi explores the ongoing development of humanity I'm interested in writing how that pertains to sexuality as well.

Anonymous characters are accepted on a case-by-case basis. I understand some people make a character anonymous out of a perception of freedom or safety to be more experimental in their writing. I respect that. A lot of my RP's with anonymous characters abruptly end with a delete, unfortunately, and that's very frustrating. I don't want to waste my time.

If you want to end an RP, let me know. There's no hard feelings or wounded pride on my part. We may get to a point where we've written ourselves into a corner or the characters aren't compatible. It happens to the best of us. I'd rather laugh it off, shake internet hands, and part amiably. I won't hound you for posts; if more than a week passes without a reply, I'll archive the RP. Feel free to send me a message or just post to continue the RP.

Violence and foul language are fine. There's a line between violence and excessive gore. I like evocative violence and realistic results. I don't have much interest in RPing 'Kill Bill' where a papercut sprays like an arterial wound but I'll RP actual, real violence. I'm likewise not interested in RPing being slowly fed through a wood chipper or other excessive things. The threat of such or it even happening at the hands of a criminal works fine but I'm not going to give a gory second by second breakdown of the characters final moments.

I'm fine with common sense non-consent. Keep the RP flowing. Just don't be weird about it. Touching her on the shoulder is fine. Instantly running her through with a sword is not. Common sense and all.

A smattering of ideas to help stir the creative process. Some ideas may fit some settings better than others.

Cleansing
As more and more basic necessities are provided by computer-controlled systems, computer viruses have become a greater threat to public safety. In an attempt to prevent future viruses from causing problems, a brilliant programmer creates a super virus that will stop all others and thereby protect the (world’s/stations/ships) computer systems. This new virus analyzes computer code to determine its purpose: If the code is for a computer virus, it is destroyed. The programmer releases his creation into the wild with little testing, confident that he has just eliminated all computer viruses from ever being a threat again.

Within mere minutes of its release, power grids start to shut down and safety systems begin to fail. The super virus has determined that all code except for itself is potentially a virus. As local governments and law enforcement enter into a cyber-battle with the super virus, it determines that DNA is a potentially malevolent code and begins taking over military systems with the goal of destroying all organic life forms.

Anything that has computer software is being taken over by the super virus, and anything biological is tagged for destruction. Our characters have to survive this crisis or find a way to stop it.

Neverland
Early in her career, a military commander lost her family to an alien invasion. Her husband’s body was recovered, but her child was never found. Decades later, she has learned that some of the people from her home planet were taken as slaves. Recent skirmishes against the alien menace have recovered some of these slaves. The military commander is launching an illegal raid into alien territory to find her lost child. Her years of emotional suffering have taken their toll, and she is mad with hatred for her enemy.

Our characters could be in the military under this commander, hired as mercenaries for the operation, or volunteering for a number of personal reasons. Alternately, we could be sent to stop this commander.

The Parent Race
Probes return with information about a previously undiscovered planet covered with ruins. Rumors spread that this planet was inhabited by one of the “parent” species of the cosmos, early interstellar travelers who either attempted to influence the primitive peoples they encountered or seeded worlds with their own kind.

Archaeologists, private collectors, and our characters all scramble to outfit expeditions, but there are few starships headed in the right direction. Rival expeditions end up hitching rides together on a few heavy space cruisers. What could go wrong?

Welcoming Committee
Two neighboring planets have been working towards space exploration technology and have recently discovered each other’s existence. After some diplomatic missteps and a few skirmishes, the two races started an arms race and now perch on the brink of interplanetary war. Our characters have been tasked with contacting both races as a welcoming committee to the interstellar community, securing their cooperation in local treaties and practices, and smoothing over their conflicts.

Star Wagon
On the far side of the galaxy, an advanced race whose planet was dying built a fleet of giant world ships and dispersed into space. While these world ships had everything they needed for their original purpose (the search for and colonization of new planets), by the time some of them found new homes they had been living in space for generations. They decided to not abandon their home and continued to travel. Unfortunately, the ships weren’t designed for indefinite use.

Eventually the expanded population aboard the ships, as well as the vessels’ own age, starts to cause them to shut down. Our characters come across one of these failing ships drifting in space. The occupants have pushed the ship’s systems to their breaking point, and have scavenged parts from non-essential systems, including propulsion. They request help from our characters in repairing their ship.

Seek and Ye Shall Find
A scout ship dispatched to an unexplored system has gone silent, and the group that launched it fears the worst. Before the crew stopped broadcasting, they mentioned seeing unfamiliar ships in a region where there should be no vessels at all. The characters are asked to investigate, and are provided with a fast picket ship as needed.
