AGE 31 ETHNICITY Chinese (Han) ORIENTATION Unknown ALLIANCES Red Petal Opium Den |
I heard those damned flowers singing to me. FĒN YÌ (an alias spelled with the characters for scent and profit, devised to be both ironic and easy for Londoners to remember) emigrated from China to London with her unkind husband, who established their opium den. He became a hopeless addict of his own product. Fen Yi watched him wither away into the shadowed corners of the Red Petal, growing emaciated and sickly in his unchecked vices. And then one day Fen Yi changed her name and seized control of the business. Since then she has rooted herself deeply. She has eyes all over the city and a sizable territory. Nothing illegal moves without her hearing about it. While her interest lies mainly in narcotics, cadavers have suddenly come into demand. Needless to say, business is good. Fen Yi picked up English quickly. She's a poised businesswoman; it's difficult to tell what she's thinking. Her long black hair is usually worn loose, and to it clings the heady scent of opium smoke, as she can often be found perched on an upper bunk in her den, legs dangling beneath the folds of poppy-red skirts. Although she is a powerful resource to draw from, she is also very capricious. She has no lost love for Britain. Shrewdly, she continues to expand her criminal ring. She often rents out her junkies to resurrection men to assist on night-digs and has a tentative professional relationship with Alistair. As one of the most influential resurrectionists in London, she tries not to step on his toes out of courtesy, though if worst came to worst she could certainly break his foot. There are only a few hundred Chinese immigrants in London. As the only lifeline they can find once they disembark the ships, Fen Yi has formed a closely-knit network. It's hard to say if she needs them more than they need her or vice versa. Perhaps they've become one and the same. |
