Servius Motus is a species that I have created and it is a closed species. Dante's Inferno is heavily influenced with the ideas, however this is not a direct representation as to what may be featured in the book. Please do not take this information to create a character unless you have gotten my express permission. It is also a dick move to use this information to god-mod me.

Servius Motus are thought to be descendants of Cerberus. It is believed that demons first bred them to help control the population of souls in the Circles in Hell. They run wild without the assistance of other demons for survival and will fight to protect themselves from being tamed. Servius Motus slowly spread to each Circle and relished in the opportunity to take out their rage on the trapped souls. The dogs are bred to be protectors of each Circle, punishers of the damned, and utilized as hounds to track down souls that have escaped or have broken a contract with a demon contractor. Like Cerberus, the hounds normally have three heads, but a smaller strain have two or one heads.

Body Temperature:
Regular Body Temperature stays at 105 degrees and is able to fend off most common bacteria. The dogs have a high metabolic rate constantly replacing cells.

Blood:
The coloration is naturally black and blood drinkers may find it sweet and have a robust taste. They can naturally produce a large quantity of blood to heal damage to their bodies.

Saliva/Stomach Acid:
Dogs have special enzymes in their saliva that can tear apart a soul. Once the soul is digested by the stomach, it is destroyed. The saliva is also believed to contain special properties that cause Servius Motus to heal wounds in a human slow fashion when they bite one another. Fighting among Servius Motus is the primary reason for the high mortality in the breed.

Diet:
Primarily gain sustenance by devouring souls which is their preferred method to eat while in the Circles. Carnivorous, meat is a secondary food source and aids in maintaining a healthy body. Cannibalism is frequently found in the breed. Some Servius Motus' may acquire a taste for nuts, fruits, or vegetables but there are no health benefits to consuming these products.

Forms:
The Hellion Form:
Quadruped form that the dogs have upon their birth. This is the preferred form that a dog will usually be in the Circles. The only drawback is that they are not capable of writing and therefore signing contracts.

The Anthro Form:
Bipedal form that dogs can take when they are fully mature. They always have one head. In this form they can write and are capable of forming contracts. The dogs can move on two legs or four. Their voices will echo depending on how many heads they have in their Hellion form. Rarely will a Servius Motus stay this form unless on the surface world or speaking with demons in their Circle since they are at a disadvantage when it comes to fighting other dogs.

The Human Form:
Human forms are capable of being taken when they are in the surface world. In order to take a human form, they must possess a victim and eat the soul. The body will remain ageless and in good condition until the dog discards it. Once a host body is abandoned, it will go through an unusually rapid decay.

Anatomy
Body Shape:
Muscular with medium amount of fat to insulate from the elements. These dogs fight from the moment that they can walk as pups. Their high metabolism along with a readily available food source always keeps them comfortably​ in shape. Because of the nature of the pack structure, it is rare that a dog will allow themselves to become too overweight or underweight.

Eyes:
Visually similar to a canine eye. Capable of seeing in nearly complete darkness. There is an additional membrane that protects the eye against smoke and dust.

Nose:
Signature feature of the species. They have an excellent sense of smell that can use a quarter sized sample to hunt for a soul or mortal in the surface world. They heavily rely on their nose for a wide range of activities including hunting, tracking, and maintaining territorial boundaries.

Heads:
Each head has their own personality and works independently from each other. If a head is severed, it cannot grow back. Dogs with one or two heads are thought as undesirable since they are at a disadvantage when it comes to fighting other three-headed Servius Mortus. These strains often live in separate packs from three-headed dogs or are killed off.

Horns:
The types of horn dogs can have is exhaustive. Males and females can possess horns, although males tend to have more pronounced ones than females. They are used for offensive fighting and considered a desirable trait in their species for breeding purposes. Broken or damaged horns will grow back, but may take 200 years to complete depending on the complexity and size of the horn.

Lungs:
They possess large lungs that have a high surface area and a triple filtration system. Since many dogs live in extremely hot zones and have to deal with gases, it is important that they are able to get pure oxygen into their bodies in an efficient manner. They are capable of controlling their breathing under high smoke conditions and rarely suffer from carbon monoxide or poison gas leeching onto their systems.

Immortal unless killed by iron, holy magic, certain demonic magic, or another Servius Motus. Dogs born from the Sixth Circle are the exception and die around 1000 years old even if in top physical condition due to the nature of their powers.

Physical Strengths:
Scent Hound:
Can map the scent of any soul and track them down on the surface world. This can be nullified if the target possesses an enchantment.

Stamina:
These dogs are nomadic in nature and are built to travel long distances. The predatory drive that they have allows them to go for hours without rest to catch quarry

Doesn't allow them to swim easily. Dogs do not like being around large bodies of water for this reason.

Pure Iron:
Iron weapons can cause the dogs great harm. They capable of making wounds that heal slowly and may cause them to bleed out. Using iron shackles, collars, and trapped behind bars or in cages will weaken them. Ingesting iron is fatal.

Salt:
Ingesting salt doesn't harm them, but used in large quantities around specific areas, it can use a barrier that the dogs cannot cross and weakens them when they approach.

Social
Breeding:
Servius Motus can mate once every hundred years after they reach sexual maturity. Females will not produce new pups until their current litter is able to become part of their pack. The dog can technically breed at 100 years old, but they are forced to breed to different species on the surface world since the bitch will rebuff their advances. Dogs and bitches can produce half-breeds with any species but they are viewed harshly by purebred Servius Motus' and often are killed.

The bitch becomes sexually mature by the time she reaches around 400 years old. She can give birth to a litter that ranges from two to twelve pups. Clan mates help feed her and the pups and she will not leave their side. Bitches are known to be ferociously protective until the pups stop weaning around 50 years old.

While the usual care of feeding, cleaning, protecting is followed faithfully by the bitch, a large portion of the bonding occurs between the pups. Acting like a tiny clan, they will fight each other to assert dominance. Fratricide/cannibalism will occur but the adult clan members won't interfere with this practice. This causes roughly only half of litter to survive until the onset of puberty. When the pups reach puberty, they join the pack and are brought in as the lowest ranking members in the current clan hierarchy.

Clans and Family Packs:
Clans of each Circle are further divided into families. The exact number of families isn't known. They may be composed of 5 - 12 adults and 4 - 8 pups. If overcrowding in a family becomes a problem, lower ranking adults (males and females) are known to split from the pack and look for their own territory or join a least populated one. This social adaptation prevents instances of long term inbreeding. If adults cannot find a suitable territory, they will go to the surface world and live among mortals. Dogs are known as "strays" if they voluntarily come to the surface world and are not actively hunting prey or seeking a mate for sex. Some Servius Motus' live the rest of their lives as strays but those that cannot adapt to the abrupt changes will go back to their Circle and family. They will be accepted into the pack, but be demoted to the lowest rank in the hierarchy regardless of past status.

Hierarchy:
There is a strict pecking order that is maintained in the pack. The alpha pair commands their family and keeps the rest of the pack in line. The alpha male and alpha female are not necessarily "mates" but the strongest in their clan. They do not interfere in the opposing sexes feuds and will not defend each other. Mating is the privilege of the alpha, second, and third ranking males and females of the group and they are free to choose whoever they wish to mate with. Any subordinate found secretly mating will have their pups eaten and sometimes genitals mutilated. The only way to become an alpha is to defeat the current alpha in battle. Due to the harsh environment that Servius Motus are in, they often coordinate these fights in a ritual called the Blood Rites that occur every 300 years. It is common that death and cannibalism occurs during these events. Not only can the alpha be challenged during the Blood Rites, but any pack member wishing to move up in rank may be challenged. When these battles are decided, the defeated dog can choose to either stay in the pack and accept their new rank, leave their pack in favor for another, or go to the surface world as a stray.

Life Cycle
Servius Motus grow at a slow rate when compared to other species.

Development:
Baby Stage:

Newly born pups will only communicate by growling, yipping, and other primitive noises when they are born. They are not capable of speaking, although they can pick up on the Abyssal language that their mother and other adults speak. Mothers do not try to speak Latin to their pups at this stage.

Speaking/Walking Age:

Shortly after learning to walk, the bitch may become more invested with teaching them the Abyssal language and weeding out communication by growls and other auditory methods.

Speaking Age Part II:

Latin is taught to pups when they are officially accepted into the family pack. Since Latin is the language used to make contracts pups start to learn it early.

Some dogs don't learn to write until they are an anthro, but if the dogs speak to other demons regularly in their Circle, they can often get tombs/books for favors. This is another way that a dog may pick up on another languages.

Dogs are capable of possessing a host body at the onset of puberty. They often go to the surface world to explore the realm outside of their circle. This is the first stages of their magic being available to use freely.

Trustworthy: Contracts are used in order to gain a personal soul. Dogs have a predisposition to honor any task that they say they will do

Weaknesses:
Stubborn: Dissuading a dog to complete personal or contract goals is practically impossible. Once they have set their sight on a task they will do it even if it leads them to an early death
Petty: Dogs do not like it when something doesn't go according to plan. If a contractor goes back on his word or a demon doesn't fulfill an obligation, this will irritate them and initial steps that usually will allow a dog to seek vengeance

Instinct and Biological Predispositions:
Naturally aggressive with a predatory drive to hunt and kill

Motivation and emotion:
It should be noted that the Servius Motus grows up around souls that have committed a specific sin. As a result, it is rare that most dogs fall prey to being consumed by that emotion. For instance, a dog that grows up in the Circle of Lust for example is almost certainly not driven by sex or will be ruled by it.

A Note on Half Breeds

Half breeds are a phenomenon that occurs when a dog mates with a species of another breed on the surface world. If a bitch knows that she might be pregnant with a half breed, she will give birth to them on the surface world since Servius Motus will not accept half breeds into the clan no matter what the circumstances and often kill the babies upon their birth. Half breeds age quicker than a full breed and the bitch does not go through the same rituals she would as purebred pups. Depending on the bitch, she may abandon half breed pups from newborn to puberty depending on her attachment. Many half breeds possess the dog-like eyes, horns, nose, fire manipulation and immunity and may have other unique traits but this purely depends on the species that make up their other half. Half breeds cannot pass their genetic information to their offspring only in the instance that they come in contact with another Servius Motus halfbreed or purebred dog.

These magics are possible in all Servius Motus Clans. There are some magics and ablities that are exclusive to only certain clans. See "Clans" for more information.

Common:
Hellfire Manipulation:
They are pyrokinetics by their very nature. The color of the fire can range from any spectrum but white. These flames come from Hell and can curse objects that come into contact with it. Regular water can extinguish the flames but to get rid of the curse holy water or celestial incantations must be used. The fire can be used to craft demonic weapons for added effects on those that can command the dark arts. Servius Motus have the ability to create fire out of their extremities as long as oxygen is present. They can also create a fire breath capable of releasing small plumes a few feet away from them. Advance fire techniques (IE: fire shields, fire walls, etc.) can be created from dog to dog.

Fire/Heat/Smoke Immunity:
Fire has a healing effect on the breed and it is not uncommon for those on the surface world to jump into shallow hot springs, volcanoes, fireplaces, and other natural thermal reservoirs to recover.

Contractor Mark:
When a Servius Motus make a contract with a mortal, they will bite the victim with their fangs sealing the deal of whatever pact they had made. Until both parties have fulfilled both parts of their deal the dog will grant temporarily healing ablities** to his contractor. This assures that their prey is least likely to be killed until the contract is fulfilled. This particular mark is extremely hard to remove and those that break the contract without the consent of the dog are often hunted down ruthlessly.
**This means that the character will not age and has advanced healing properties via their contracted Servius Motus. They are still mortal and can be killed by conventional means.
Flame Curse:
Usually occurs when someone picks up an object that a dog might have ignited with their hellfire. If the object sits stationary in a place those that approach it may find they have a bad case of luck to those that may stumble upon it. The effects can range anything to tripping, suffering from illness, decay of plant matter around it, a decrease in animal activity etc. If the object is destroyed or blessed with holy water, the curse is removed.
Bite Curse:
The last curse involves a dog mutilating the soul of a mortal but not devouring it. Viewed as a form of torture, a victim will show signs of demonic influence such as a change in eye or sclera color, the appearance of small horns, an increase in nightmares, manic episodes, and "voices" in their head. This curse can be reversed by the victim being exorcised or submerged in holy water to repair the damage.

Warnings:

• It is advised that only experienced black magic users try to evoke a Servius Motus. The breed is dangerous and will sense weakness. If the summoner doesn't have the constitution or misses a step in the summoning process, their life can be put in critical danger.
• Summers are advised to be respectful for any demon that they call upon.
• Demons do not desire to do business with those that have any type of indicators that they might have been touched by the Holy Blessing. (IE: The dark magics and light magics shall remain separate)

Ritual:
There are many spells and incantations that may directly and indirectly evoke a Servius Motus. If a dog is directly summoned, the summoner must use their first name in the invocation process. Summoners that know the birth name of the dog that they summoned can easily bind the creature and they may have control over it without the need of a contract. If this is not the case, then the dog must be lured out of Hell by using the following items and keeping the following in mind:

The Latin evocation used to summon the dog. This phrase varies depending on tomes/grimoire but should be memorized and unwaveringly precise to summon the correct demon. A blood sacrifice (It is advised that there be enough food that all of dogs' head can feed on and be sated) Any binding agent that can hold the sacrifice in The night of a full moon Fragrant Incense 12 Black or Red Candles

The blood of the summoner Black Ink Unused, unsoiled vellum paper. This should be large enough to house the sigil of the demon A quiet place for the ritual to take place Something personal to the summoner A clear and concise purpose. Dogs do not wish to have their time wasted and won't appear if the summoner is weak of will or mind.

1. The summoner should place the candles in a circular position on the ground. It needs to be in a large enough area to allow the dog to move around in.
   
2. In the middle of the circle, the blood sacrifice should be bound.
   
3. Using the vellum paper, the sigil used to summon the portal will be written in the summoner's blood.
   
4. The personal item belonging to the summoner should be used to weigh down paper and then placed on the ground
   
5. Using the Latin evocation the ritual will activate the ritual assuming that the summoner has followed all previous instructions.
   
6. Should the incantation be successful a portal to the Circles will be open and the dogs will appear and devour the sacrifice.
   
7. After consumption the dog will speak to the summoner and the details regarding a contract will be forged. Summoner's must be concise with their purpose
   
8. If a dog cannot fulfill the request or no agreement can be reached, the dog will be drawn back into the portal and no contract will be made
   
9. If a dog and summoner reach a deal the dog will shift to their anthro form and forge a contract to officially agree to their terms. The dog will take the vellum paper and item belonging to the summoner as proof before biting the contractor.
   
10. With the ritual complete, the dog recognizes the summoner as their contractor and will proceed accordingly.
    

The sigil mark for each Circle is unique. And when the magic is used, a portal in the specified Circle appears to only those dogs. No universal sigil is known reach all circles of hell. If the summoner has used an incantation to summon a Greed Servius Motus and they need a contract that deals with Lust for instance, the dog will still fulfill the contract if they feel they can. Some circles of Hell get more traffic than others for this reason.

Summoning:
Summoned Servius Motus will speak to the summoner in Latin in order to do any type of agreement. Those summoners that are unable to speak the Latin or can't communicate in Abyssal will find that the dog will try to break out of the transmutation circle. If the transmutation circle is poorly made, then the summoner my find themselves killed without a contract being made.

Pacts:
The dog will summon a contract made from wood of cursed oak. Both the summoner and Servius Motus must sign their name on the paper in their blood to seal the deal. Once done, the Servius will bite the contractor and their sigil will appear on their bodies.

Dogs can mark a single individual multiple times but this is ill advised. Whichever pact is fulfilled first claims rights to eat the soul. The mark of all other dogs are erased when this happens. Regardless of the circumstance the dogs that have not eaten the original soul will will forcibly take the soul blood relative, loved one, or person that is closely associated to the original contractor even if they have never signed a contract with a Servius Motus or their end of the agreement hasn't been fulfilled.

If a Servius Motus feels that they cannot complete a task, the dog can choose to amend or cancel the contract. This requires the consent of the contractor. Should the terms be accepted by both parties, the dog forfeits the right to claim the contractor's soul upon their death.

Weakness:

Important Things to Note:

• It is advised that summoner's be honest in what they desire and not lie to the dogs. As dogs are held by their word, they will not tolerate the lies of a mortal.
• Dogs are not obligated to make a contract if they do not feel that it is in their benefit or the offer that the summoner makes is weak.
• Dogs NEVER give the true names of either themselves or other Servius Motus to anyone even if summoned
• Dogs cannot directly harm their contractor or perform actions that can lead to their death
• If a contractor dies prematurely, even if a dog doesn't complete their part of the bargain, the soul still belongs to the dog
• Contractor souls that have been eaten by a Servius Motus cannot be reincarnated or resummoned
• It is possible for a summoner to barter the soul of another person besides their own to complete a contract, but the summoner must share a solid connection with them in order for the dog to consider. If a summoner is found to have lied about the connection between them then both the contractor and their intended victim's soul will be forfeit.

Other:
Names:
When they are born, bitches will give all of their pups a first name that often is Abyssal or Latin in origin. The last name is composed of the original family pack they are born into. Even when they are in a pack setting, it is rare that Servius Motus' will use their real names to address each other and often give each other "nicknames" to communicate. If a demon/mortal/holy being discover their real name, it is possible to bind the Servius Motus without a contract.

Relationship with Demons:
Servius Motus mostly are too busy tending to the souls to deal with other demons that might wander into the Circles. The dogs view demons as cousins regardless of the species and type they may be and most dogs will not attack other demons unless provoked or feel threatened. Some clans look forward to exchanging information with demons and relationships between demon and dog may form. This symbiotic relationship is becoming more common as the Servius Motus offer their services in exchanges for goods/knowledge. There are instances of demons trying to capture adults or kidnap pups from a clan for nefarious reasons. If a pup is kidnapped, the mother may ask a clan member to go after the demon and kill it and retrieve their pup. Adults that are captured are belligerent and won't obey unless properly broken. Pups are typically easier to manage/break than an adult, so many demons try to kidnap them as young as possible.

Relationship with Holy Beings:
Dogs are highly aggressive to holy beings. They view them as a threat to their lives and won't hesitate to harm or kill an actual holy being or anyone that spreads the gospel. Holy instruments/weapons represent how many Servius Motus die on the surface world.

Relationship with Mortals:
Mortals are essentially entertainment. Dogs can have varying degrees about how to feel about mortals depending on the Circle and circumstances that causes them to have contact with them. Mortals are the preferred choice dog will try to form a contract* with due to their short lifespans.
*Eating the soul of a contracted mortal gains the dog greater power rather than just sustenance.

Relationship with Souls:
Souls that are found in the Circles are looked down as mere food. The souls are being punished for the sin that they have committed and rarely will a dog try to form any relationship with them. Whatever soul that happens to be within a dog's sight during pangs of hunger is eaten with no remorse shown. Most souls usually are kept alive for long amounts of time to prolong their torture in the Circles. The dogs can sense how old a soul has been around and pick off older souls accordingly. Dogs maintain a balance of retaining and destroying souls to not upset the delicate balance within the Circles. If for any reason a contracted soul ends up within the Circle, it will have a distinguishing scent to it which stops other dogs from eating it.

Different breeds of Servius Motus reside in each circle of Hell. Those born in a clan typically will stay in their respected Circle due to the nature of their abilities. The only time different clans meet each other is on the surface world or if they need to go to a different Circle but this is an extremely rare occurrence. If two different breeds of Servius Motus mate, the resulting offspring may have a mixture of their sire and dam's traits. The physical attributes listed below are found in typical Servius Motus' that never leave the surface world.

First Circle (Limbo)

Ability to alter or deceive the perceptions of another. Can be sensory, a light or sound-based effect, or an alteration of mental perceptions. May overlap with reality warping when it is possible to interact with the illusions.
Quirk:
Known for daydreaming often. They have trouble separating dream from reality

Second Circle (Lust)

Pheromone Implementation
Ability to generate and control pheromones which may have various effects.
Quirk:
Views sex as a chore, often not thrilled about participating in the act but are voyeurs. The least populated of the clans.

Third Circle (Gluttony)
Physical Attributes:

Self-Sustenance
Does not need to eat, drink and/or sleep
Quirk:
Pica Disorder

Fourth Circle (Greed)
Physical Attributes:
Strength:
Hoarding
Innate desire to amass objects, knowledge, or ideas. Often highly intelligent individuals.
Quirk:
Single minded to complete their personal "collections" they have trouble expressing complex thought processes or seeing "the bigger picture"

Fifth Circle (Wrath)
Physical Attributes:
Often possess thick layered coats and have stocky builds
Strength:
Berserker
Feverish state of pure rage. During fits, they feel no pain and attack both friend and foe alike.
Quirk:
Often suppresses their anger until it boils over and puts them in a berserker state. When the fever abates, they are weak/tame leaving them vulnerable. They have a high mortality rate when performing the Rites ritual.

Sixth Circle (Heresy)
Physical Attributes:

Elemental transmutation
The ability to alter chemical elements, changing them from one substance to another by rearranging the atomic structure. High iron tolerance.
Quirk:
Changing elements has an adverse negative health effect on their bodies. Unlike other clans, they are considered mortal and only have a lifespan of about 1000 years depending on how much they transmute in their lives.

Seventh Circle (Violence)
Physical Attributes:
Thickened skin and/or fur
Strength:
Natural Armor/Thick Skin
Often provides a form of invulnerability with weapons. Bone and/or skin mutations are common in dogs from this circle.
Quirk:
CIPA - Can feel no pain when harmed. This often leaves them not knowing when to stop and they often suffer severe wounds without even realizing it. This clan has an extremely high mortality rate when performing the Rites ritual.

Eighth Circle (Fraud)
Physical Attributes:
Strength: Duplication (Max of 4 Clones)
Quirk: If a duplicate is killed then the power that it had is forever lost. Because of the expanse of the eighth circle, many of this clan speak to their own duplicates resulting in split personality disorder or other mental illnesses. Other clans outside of the eighth circle often view them as insane.

Ninth Circle (Treachery)
Physical Attributes:
Webbed feet, lighter bodies to allow for easier swimming
Coat:
Light Colors common in this breed. Seventy percent of this Clan possesses a white/mostly white coat phenotype.
Strength: Paralysis bite, high tolerance to water/ice
Quirk: While twice immune to water/ice than the other clans, they are more susceptible to certain demonic and holy magic making them the most fragile of the clans.

Can I create a Servius Motus/Halfbreed?
