The Demon

  • A Brief History


    Nightmare demons are one of the highest castes alongside their lustful counterparts. While their gluttonous cousins are known for their voracious appetites and carnal behaviour, these demons are regarded as more subtle and sinister and just as playful, though no less dangerous. Their strengths lay not in breaking down the wills of their victims, nor using brute force, but in using tricks of the mind and manifesting fear and horror in the souls of mortals. Their ability to sense a person's darkest fears and bring them to life with terrifying summons and hallucinations make them a horrifying foe to behold, and a tricky creature to pin down with their clever use of illusions and shadows.

    Their social structure within the Otherworld is self governed, the general court overseen by the most dominant and powerful demon at that given time, often alongside their equally strong mate. This position is usually fought for in a dangerous game of politics rather than directly challenged, with both males and females scheming to usurp the self proclaimed leaders. In terms of sexual partners, nightmare demons tend to mate for life and are generally not interested in seeking multiple partners. Despite their trickster nature, they are quite loyal to their lifetime lovers. Like most demons, females naturally seek the strongest male counterpart as in the extremely rare case that a child is conceived, it will be stolen or killed by other denizens of their world unless protected.

    While almost never found on the Earthly side of the veil in modern day, in times past they have been summoned by covens, where they struck binding contracts with witches and warlocks in exchange for their services - most often as a form of warfare against magical opposition. In history even further back when demons held a vicelike grip on humanity, their torturous glee was commonplace.

    Abilities
    		➣CHARM ▪ Khalona can command of anyone a simple task, which they will be compelled to do. The target can be snapped out of the compulsion, though it can be difficult based on how strong her command is. The effect requires eye contact to initiate, and lasts until the task's completion, or until the person is able to use their will to break free. Large amounts of pain can break the spell. ➣NIGHTMARES ▪ By touching another person, she can cause them to hallucinate their worst fears. This is triggered by touch, and once initiated it takes sheer force of will to break out. She can choose to end the hallucinations at any time. Ending the effect does not require touch. The affected person may lash out violently to others, or break down completely.

    		➣EMPATH▪ Khalona is able to sense the emotions of those around her. While most notably aligned to fear, per her nature, she can feel the full spectrum of emotion and in doing this is thus able to sense things such as malicious intent or even truthfullness.

    A person who is very good at controlling their emotions may circumvent this talent, and likewise Khalona is able to supress it at will, though moments of weakness will leave her more exposed.
         		➣STRENGTH WITH AGE ▪ Only a young demon, and though a half breed, her abilities will grow more potent with age and experience. Each one will become more refined, adding strength and ease to their use.

  • ➣UNSETTLING EYES ▪ Gazing into the eyes of a nightmare demon for an extended period can cause discomfort at the least. At the most, a person may experience inexplicable feelings of terror or fear; the hair on their body will rise, their body's adrenaline will kick in, as though there were some unseen threat. Extended periods of exposure occurring over days and/or weeks can cause mental instability, eventually leading to permanent damage.


    ➣GLAMOUR ▪ Khalona can alter her appearance to appear more human, although the effect is imperfect and does not suppress her fearful aura.

  • Weaknesses

    -Incredibly weak without feeding-

  • Feeding

    As a half breed demon, Khalona must feed off a human by killing them (consuming their life energy, or soul) approximately every two weeks or else she starts to become sick. Alternatively she can feed off the blood of a full breed demon or witch/warlock without the need to kill.

    Symptoms of prolonged time without feeding include, but are not limited to:

    -Extreme weakness
    -Coughing or vomiting, with or without blood
    -Lethargy
    -Rabid behaviour
    -Temporary loss of sanity
    -Extreme sensitivity to smell, particularly the smell of blood

    These symptoms start off minor, and can increase in severity with the end result inevitably being death.

    Khal must also consume regular food, though less often than normal humans. Feeding lends her extra strength, and she often gets a very adrenaline-like boost off feeding that temporarily gives her an extra edge to her abilities, as well as healing any injury.

    Because of her aversion towards her nature and requirements for survival, her feeding habits are scattered and poor. She tends to wait too long, putting off the inevitable until her control is wrenched away and she launches into a bloodthirsty frenzy. She is much more prone to the smell of blood because of this, and often has difficulty holding herself together.
