  • Lydia Wells was born and partly raised in NYC. She was living happily with her parents Cara and Louis Wells until the accident happened. It was the girl's 14th birthday on the Eve of Halloween. As they were going home after the celebration a storm occurred, causing her dad to lose control over the vehicle, crashing it into the highway railing. The crash killed both of her parents and the poor child witnessed everything from the back seat she was in, receiving a big scar as a birthday present to remind her of what happened. She was all alone. The guilt she started experiencing soon after she came into consciousness after the accident was a heavyweight for such a young girl. And on top of that? The grieving girl got sent to live with a distant aunt on her mother's side that she had never met, in the city of San Angelo, almost 2000 miles away from her home.

    And let me tell you - living with Eleanor Ward wasn't easy. She made sure from the very start that Lydia was well aware that the older woman didn't care who she had lost. She didn't care about the trauma she had, nor the blame she felt. Lydia was explicitly told that the only reason Eleanor agreed to take her in was that she had taken pity on the girl, as no other family member wanted or could take the responsibility of taking care of a teenager. Ward was clear that she had never liked Lydia's mother, and that she certainly doesn't like Lydia either. 'You look like her.' Eleanor told Wells one time, with a tone that could only be taken as an insult. And from there the worst part of Lydia's life began.

    At first, it wasn't that bad. It was worse than she had expected but bearable. Sure, Eleanor was out most of the time and in the short time that she did spend at home, she made sure to remind Lydia how much she resented her for being ... herself, really. But it progressively got worse, and worse. Eleanor began spending more time inside, claiming that she wanted to 'keep a close eye on the girl, so she doesn't turn out the same as her mother'. But the more she was around, the crueler Ward got. From reminders of resentment, she upgraded to almost constant insults. Not only did she like to let the younger girl know how useless, and incapable, and stupid she saw her as. She also liked to poke where it hurt the most - her parents' death. It was clear to see that Lydia felt like she was to blame for the accident. And Eleanor used that to her advantage, to cause as much pain as she could. The only reason Wells managed to push through the years she lived at that house was pure stubbornness. She refused to allow the older women to see just how much damage she was causing. But it was a lot. More than anyone ever had and could hurt her.

    Just a little after she turned 18, Lydia got whatever she had managed to save up with the part-time jobs she went through (which wasn't an easy task, having in mind Eleanor's love to lock her inside the house), packed her things, and moved out in the middle of the night. She went back to New York, to be closer to where her parents are buried, where she is currently renting a loft in a horrible, crime-ridden part of town and working at a diner with a pain-in-the-ass of a boss. But anything is better than being back in San Angelo, with her aunt. Now she's still fighting her own demons and hiding behind high walls to stop herself from feeling that pain she had gone through.
