Dekrato

Dekrato Moiran... One would be hard pressed to ever find a tavern in all of Gythia that had not heard that name or met the man that owned it firsthand. Arrived and departed like the winds that carried his names and deeds, most agreed the male was a bit of a mystery, even through his amiable and charismatic nature. One thing most knew for sure, however, was that if there was a request to be had in tavern, there was a near guarantee the man would take it upon himself to see it through if he could.

As for who exactly Dekrato was, it was much more simple and humble than rumors liked to paint him out to be. Growing up in Southern Gythia, he was born to a Technologist father and Mageborn mother, a union considered both unholy and foul by both halves of the land at the time. They lived in mild secrecy, the truth only existing to the village they resided in to be their only refuge to raise both him and his sister Anna in a place they'd be safe from the scornful eyes of the rest of the world. Though the duo grew up listening to their father's tales of his adventures and travels, sparking the hunger for the outside world and eagerness to explore along with a desire to live up to the name that they'd imagined they needed to. It wasn't exactly a necessity they'd required, but neither parent was willing to dash the hopes of such innocent youths.

And while Anna hadn't been quite gifted and born with anything in particular, Dekrato meanwhile had inherited slivers of his mother's magical prowess, namely in the skills of healing magics and the life. His father had a blade custom made for the young lad and taught him nearly every ounce of skill Dekrato would've needed to know in order to be out on his way in that huge world. Once he'd finally hit the age of eighteen, it was off into the unknown in search of new towns to visit, new people to meet, riches to be hunted, and myths to be discovered.

For a while, it was a good life. The ruins of past settlements and colonies lie dormant and unexplored for years, simply waiting for their secrets and treasure troves to be found by one brave (or foolish) enough to go out and discover such. Dekrato was just that man, skirting Death itself by a hair just for the thrill of a treasure hunt, coming back to whatever tavern he might be closest to in order to spin his tales of grandiose adventure to the various patrons that he'd met that night, in addition to giving himself a place to rest and recover while patching yet another wound he'd garnered and left a scar upon his body.

Though after a few years of his travels, and his name had become much more spread as a sort of adventurer for hire, whether it be a mercenary, a bodyguard, a healer, or whatever the job called for, a new plague had descended upon Gythia in entirety. Civil unrest had been brewing between both Mageborn and Technologist, though tensions rose not because of their own actions, but by a mysterious third party with their own ambitions at heart who lurked in the shadows of the Veil, pulling carefully laid strings in both halves of Gythia to frame atrocities on either side. It was the beginnings of the Great Gythian Civil War, and Dekrato was of a select few who'd received a letter summoning him to the monolith known as Harrow's Tower. It served as both the housing for Gythia's protective magic Vain crystal, as well as a place of immense magic and power that drew both curious eyes and leaders from either side of the land. It was to be a meeting place to settle negotiations and come to terms with differences and halt a Civil War before it had the chance to truly take off. Dekrato had been summoned as a protector of these negotiations, serving to keep these mysterious puppeteers from harming some of the last hopes there were at preventing such a costly war.

To cut a rather long and arduous tale short, the Civil War was successfully halted, and those hired as bodyguards were given new task to hunt down the organization that had so severely threatened them. A dangerous task, to be sure, but within the year most if not all had been tracked and either eliminated or imprisoned in order to learn a bit more about what their motives truly were. Dekrato was no longer part of that, however. Instead, once that job was finished, it was simply back to the life he'd always had and wanted. One of adventure, of good drink and company, and of good will. Though he'd had one thing different about it all now. Even his own world would not be enough after travelling across sea and sky. New worlds, new planes of existence... What were they like? Would he be able to explore them? It was a question that gnawed at his mind for a while, until the idea came to him to attempt using the Heart of Gythia as a sort of magical conduit for traversing to various different worlds of existence. Given the raw and chaotic energy this Vain contained, it was a dangerous gamble, but one he was willing to make in the pursuit of his beliefs and livelihood. After all...

"If I'm not helping all that I can, am I really calling myself a proper adventurer? I'd think that even just one world where I can help someone and learn more is enough to justify such a risky gambit. Such is the way of the gambling man."
